You cant play multiplayer in Gal Civ and I dont think its planned for GC2 is it? That right there kills any desire to want to invest time in it. I might not play MP games of SE4 all that often, but I want the ability to do so. The ones I have played have been a blast!

I also couldnt make heads or tails out of the econ system in Gal Civ. It didnt seem to make sense to me that colonizing a poor world made even you good worlds produce less?? Maybe I was just missing something, but it was not intutitive to me....at all.

I had a lot of hope for GalCiv. It appeared shortly after I was so utterly crushed by the train wreck that was MOO3. I jumped into GC wholeheartedly, but in the end, I just couldnt get into it. SE4 on the other hand, I just keep coming back to every time the desire to play a Sci-Fi 4x hits!

The problems with MOO3 are too numberous to list here. I bought the game and can speak from first hand experience, the game is uber crap. Do not waste your time or money on it even if you find it for $1.00 at a sale.
There was a breif period where Amazon was selling it for something like $-5.00 after rebates. Even people who got _paid_ to take it felt ripped off.

GalCiv2 borrowed from SEIV? Kewl, considering SEIV was fairly old by then. Nothing wrong with that. Might actually get me to check out GC2. GalCiv the original pre-dated the Space Empire series I think, altho most of that was on OS/2 instead of Windows

this is correct. the original was a ground breaking game with brilliant AI, for OS/2.

the current release of GC has gotten some very mixed reviews. some of them are quite good, and it sounds like i would enjoy playing it.

the feature list from the upcoming GC2 seems to be read straight from SE4. Every feature on it was a feature of SE4.

About a month ago I saw MOO3 sitting on my shelf and had recently seen several posts at Apolyton about major user-made mods/patches which supposedly made it playable. So I said, what the heck - I am 2 years older, *wiser* perhaps I was too harsh. So I proceeded to spend 2-3 hours a night, for around 20+ days, first installing about a dozen mods, then playing one game until around Turn 250+. I admit that it was a better experience (namely do to the user mods) than my experience when it first came out - but that is akin to saying I would prefer death by firing squad over drowning...still an absolute frustration b/c they had a lot of great ideas and I think ground combat is actually implemented in an *almost* cool way. Its very sad actually.
