Re: OT: Anyone know of any other good TBS games??
One game mentioned here that i cant stress enough how good it is, is Emperor of the Fading Suns, while the stock game is a little flawed, there are 2 mods that correct the majority of the bugs and add a whole new dimension to the game (Nova and Hyperion mods).... i myself like the Nova Mod for EFS since i think that Hyperion adds too much micromanagement, but EFS with the Nova mod is a superb game... its one of the few games that simply dont leave my HD...

Ooooh now that always gets my attention. One of the best things someone can say about a game as far as Im concerned. The games that dont leave my machine. Or even MUST be installed in every new machine I get thru a dozen upgrades.
M.U.L.E.
Balderdash
Missile Command
Master of Magic
Stars!
Celtic Kings
Scorched Earth
and of course Space Empires
and Dominions
Those are the meat of my games directory. Everything else tends to be candy that fills a temporary spot on my harddrive set aside for the "game of the month" club.

Re: OT: Anyone know of any other good TBS games??
A really good one is the The Operational Art of War: Century of Warfare Edition.
There are dozens of scenarios and it gives the best of the old board wargame feel. I am currently playing a WWI scenario with a map covering all of Europe plus the colonies. I fully expect to be playing this game out for the next 3 years. (we are averaging about 1 turn a week - each turn takes roughly 6 hours)
I have Emperor of the Fading Suns but I do not think it works anymore with Windows XP. How do you make this game work. I do not remember if it is multi-player. It is a game that would be a great multiplayer I think.

I've been keeping an eye on the development of Empire Deluxe Enhanced Edition, speaking of old-school games that won't go away. Strictly in the "Beer and Potatoes" (if I may mix metaphors) Category, but looks like it should be entertaining.

I played a demo six months or so ago that was X-Com developers doing squad turn-based... What was the name of that thing...
It was fun, but I didn't want to pay a subscription fee while getting whipped by people who obviously knew the ropes really well.

Graphical roguelikes are just wrong, wrong, wrong. Why? Because one of the distinguishing qualities of roguelikes is text instead of graphics

A whole line of CRPG's that define the term 'groundbreaking'. www.elderscrolls.com for the latest, Oblivion, which will feature a map editer capable of semi-randomly generating realistic terrain (Check the screenshots), NPC's with a daily schedule; if an NPC is told to eat something in the schedule, they may take actions as varied as buying some food from a store, go out and hunt some grub or pick your or another NPC's pocket and possibly be arrested by the guards. Which could present difficulties for you, if you need them for a quest. And, you can ride horses and therefore probably engage in mounted combat. All of this in a creative and original world with tons of detail.

Re: OT: Anyone know of any other good TBS games??
depends on your taste in games. There iS Pacific War by matrix games (they also have many others, ck their site) Domionions, Might and Magic IV, Disciplies, and others, you need to specify the type of games you like, Example, fantasy, sci-fi, war games etc.

Well, the type of games I prefer are Sci-Fi, and then war games. Fantasy comes after that.
