I have no problem with the strike aircraft choosing its target. If it does this before it enters the map it could still attack in a straight line and follow its exit orders.

I don't know what the mechanics of target selection is but this would seem to solve the problem and keep the realism too.

Thank you for looking into this and all the other little quirks people have found. The post release support for this game is unmatched.

I don't know if this is already part of the code or not, but if it is not, perhaps planes could have two cones of view/path. So they always follow their ordered path and with that limit, they only attack targets of opportunity if it does not take them out of their path.
