Excellent article for modding. Creates a great starting point for beginners and and a handy refresher for experienced.

Only question that I have is "Does this article violate the no lawyers rule"? I would not like to see all of this good work go to waste.

The "SE4 Dubious Strategy Guide" is an edited compilation of threads from the "Space Empires: IV" discussion forum on the Shrapnel Games site. It covers both common beginner's questions such as what to build first and how to grow your empire, as well as more advanced questions such as the comparative merits of different weapons and ship designs. It is updated when sufficient new material warrants.

The "SE4 Modders Guide" is an edited compilation of threads from the "Space Empires: IV" discussion forum on the Shrapnel Games site. It is a follow-up to Tampa-Gamers "Modding How-To Article" and covers what has been learned about the files used by the Space Empires IV game engine. Desciptions of all the files and their parameters, along with which files are related to which (where known) are listed in one place. It is updated when sufficient new material warrants.

-<My FTL propulsion map>-, which allows a mix of StarTrek/Starwars/B5 FTL movement. Once they reach the edge of a system, ships can move one galaxy map square using one MP. Humans only, since no AI can navigate this map.

-<My Chess scenario>- Light and dark duke it out on an 8x8 grid of systems, with all of the pieces being played by ships. After your king is killed, you will have only a few turns before your forces are eliminated by maintenance costs.

-<My Andromeda scenario>- For P&N v2.1, Discovered by a scavenger ship in orbit around a black hole, you are awakened to find your universe in shambles. The commonwealth is gone, and only squabbling factions are left fighting over the ruins. You must take charge, find allies, and reunite the galaxy in peace for a victory.
This has not been set up as a scenario; the zip includes the mod required to run it, and the savegame to load.

-<My HomeComing scenario>- (For P&N v2.3b or v2.3c) Your race has lived the live of an AI neutral, but when the sun goes nova, you are forced to leave your homesystem. Can you save your race from destruction in a hostile universe of max-tech, galaxy spanning AIs, with nothing but what you can carry with you?

-<P&N Classic>- Which has a bunch of P&N v2 tech alterations, but keeps standard SE4 propulsion. Final Version.
-<Latest Version of P&N>-
Pirates&Nomads mod, old Versions available upon request.
-<SJs latest AI Patcher>- Helpful utility to convert AIs to run under P&N V2.
A link to the latest info on Pirates & Nomads (forum thread).
P&N mod includes:
- New racial traits, including pirate and nomadic lifestyles.
- Vastly expanded defensive options, including protection against specialty weapons
- Crossover techs for races with multiple racial techs
- Quasi-Newtonian propulsion, so bigger ships need bigger engines.
- Reworked phased weapons tree and point defense, added shield bombardment missiles, and tweaked other weapons
- BattleMoon hull size, with 50x damage "planetoid core mount".
- Quality mounts for non-weapon components.

There's also my LAN helper, but it's not really useful due to the sequential turn bug.

Richard,
I developed the AI for the Romulans, Klingons and Shadows which are included in Mod Pack. Ship sets for the races were assembled/developed by Atrocities (Klingons & Romulans)and Andres Lescano (Shadows=Army of Darkness).

I have also developed a Borg Variant AI which includes additional components and a Borg Tech tree. The variant does not interfere with the basic game.

I am just finalising a revision of all AI's which I will finalise upon request. I gladly offer my work for use!

Okay then I have another solution. If you guys want I can set up a special thread in the mod forum to just post final mods and programs for inclusion to avoid clutter.

The mod maker has been put on hold until I figure out how much coursework etc I have to do this term at university.
