What might be doable and not upset the unit limit and/or play balance would be to include some elite destroyer squadrons, and/or subs. This suggestion isn't intended as a criticism of the game, "as is." But the additions might provide some additional flavor to the game.

I wonder if destroyer are really meaningfull. I mean, if you must have destroyer escorting each and every TF, then we could assumme that TF have destroyer. I care more about the US not having a torpedo round.

For the submarine warfare, well it is certainly an interesting part of the game, but as WPP does not simulate the economy I don't see how we will get something from that. It is include in the victory condition btw.

If we want something more details we need a longer game.

The scope is as near perfect as I can perceive for this game. Managing DD or subs would make the game less enjoyable.

Not to say DDs or subs didn't play important roles in WWII. But this game isn't designed or scoped for that level of play. Save those for a different game, with a different scope.

Well, there is always the possibilty of using the basic games mechanics to create a more detailed, longer lasting game. Such as destroyers, land aircraft being able to attack adjacent islands(actually being able to use long range bombers for the USA), fleets meeting halfway between islands and fighting for the priviledge of continuing on to their destination or the possibility of being destroyed or turned back(like RISK 2 does with its simultaneous movement), the ability to change the number of aicraft in each group, research and technology, the ability to choose your own reinforcements, etc.....

A game that would fall somewhere between this game and those other games that require you to keep track of everything.

For a more detail management of the air plane I would agree. I wonder if we can know the technology of the aircraft we use and if it has an influence on the game. As far as I know the corsair did a great difference for the US.

For interception of naval unit, well that can be interesting, and using land base aircraft for raiding/interception too. This can make Port Moresby interesting, because right now it is really not interesting (I just ignored it in my last game with Japan).

But going further will not serve any purpose, as other game will do just that.
