The images are only small because the sites hosting them have reduced them in size to preserve band-width. I was going to mention that it would be best to look at them through the aid of a specialized viewer-something like Adobe, if you can get them transferred over. Then you could just zoom in as close as you would care to. I know it's possible, without loss of detail, because if you go to Wiki and pull up the image, it will show a very nice, full-sized map with complete detail, before the site shrinks it down.
