Arrg... I should have read these replies last week! Damn you for not posting earlier!

BTW: I second the "badness" of starting with a low Dominion. My first MP game is going a few weeks old and some poor guy was Dominion killed before he could even shake hands with a neighbor.

blood is worse than air. It doesn't help you hit, which can be harder to come across than damage. Air provides airshield and, more importantly in late game, 75%SR.
If you've gone for the A9 bless to get 75% SR then I don't know what to tell you. Other than 'stop wasting your points' ;]
A9 bless and B9 bless are about equal in terms of how crap they are. Same goes for lower level versions of those two. High blood is marginally more useful as a pretender magic than high air though, which is really pointless.
I played as Man in the Middle Age and I'm pretty sure I wasted my Pretender points again (at least outside of my scales). I picked the P. Sorceress and have used her for nothing other than research so I'm clearly doing something wrong.
On the other hand, the game is better than Dominions 2 and might even be better than Gal Civ 2 in terms of being a great turn based strategy game. I just wish the graphics were more presentable (not RTS level, but I think Emperor of the Fading Suns looked better and it came out in 1998 I think).
