Has anyone figured out a good way to get your wight mage without a heap of afflictions? I had a pretty funny experience where my newly born wight mage had lost his head and both arms! It was pretty damned funny, but he didn't make for much of a mage...
My idea (to have it drown) was very good for that, a pity that it's buggy...
I've run into a strange sort of variant on this bug. I'm playing MA Ermor and when I killed my mage, he didn't revive at all. I got a message about "such and such's skill in death magic has increased" but no sign of the wight mage. Same thing happened when I cast ritual of rebirth on a dead champion. I already tried quitting and reloading the turn with no results. Is there a workaround to this glitch?

Only thing comes to mind is that twiceborn won't revive undead mages into a wight mage. And ritual of rebirth will only work if your dead champion is currently listed within the hall of fame.
While I really like the concepts of twiceborn and ritual of rebirth, (and I really do; they're such wonderfully creative ways of reviving the dead) I would love to turn my mages into liches & my commanders into wraiths. Or for that matter, my mounted commanders into death knights...
