Huh, why that ? Maltrease is OT and admit it, just telling players here that there is an indie 2D shooter he likes, do you consider that as unashamed advertising ??

The demo is quite fun, but only 2 levels is not enough to really sell me on the game.

Another 2D top down shooter that I've found interesting is a Japanese game called "Imperishible Night", which is one of the oddest games I've ever played.

The appeal of the game lies in it's constant boss-battles, where there are ENORMOUS quantities of deadly shots flying around. The challenge is mostly in figuring out the subtle patterns, but there's a lot of reflexes involved as well.

The plot of the game is very odd (shrine maidens dueling to end eternal winter? ) and there's a lot of indecipherable Japanese dialog, but the gameplay is like nothing else.

Here's a video of one of the harder levels, it's quite impressive. Be aware that the video runs in fast-motion until the boss appears, that's not the normal game speed.

There's also a demo that you could check out here:

One of the strangest games Ive ever played was one called "Tranquility". It really is a relaxing kindof game because trying to play it stressfully doesnt work. It always reminds me of that star trek where Riker brings back a game from Risa that takes over the whole ship except for Wesley Crusher. The scene where the chick says "You know the secret dont you? Dont force it." If you feel that all of your games are the same then check it out.

Fun demo... very fun. Reminds me a lot of UN squadron for the SNES (perhaps called area 88 too) which was awsome.

UN Squadron was on the SNES. I have spent COUNTLESS hours on that game. I don't think I have ever beaten it fully.
