i'd say we where waiting with baited breath, but i've always wondered about that saying. like many old sayings, i suspect part of it is missing. 'happy as a clam' makes sense once you know the whole thing adds 'at high tide.'

Admiral Wiers' private log, SGY 2405.4:

Raw materials are still scarce despite our best efforts. Shipments from the Klozar system have alleviated the situation somewhat, but at the moment our metal reserves are at 2% and decreasing. Nova production will be halted here in the capital and moved to Berlin III; we will gain some valuable time by launching our colony ships closer to the frontier.

Fyrine IV left 30 million colonists on Berlin III; most of them will be carried out to new worlds as the Novas are launched. Another 30 million colonists will be carried on to the Aram system, to occupy all available worlds before the Alliance can gain a foothold there.

Black Saber I took a security battalion aboard and some civilians, who will run the system government on Aram I. Meanwhile other security forces continue to be raised on Aram IV.

We now have a working shield projector prototype. It won't protect a ship from the weapons on a Yakrin frigate, but it is a good start. Now we must develop implosion reactors and anti-fighter weaponry; I feel we have already passed the turning point in the war against the Yakrin, but there may be - there almost certainly are - other hostile races in this sector.

Seeker I, Captain's log, SGY 2405.4:

Loovria II wasn't much of a challenge. The Yakrin missile satellites were destroyed at long range by a few proton torps, then Colonel Haakar's Regiment landed and captured the planet with barely more than 1% casualties. Then we were off to nearby Loovria I for a near-identical battle, except that this time the Yakrin had no satellites in orbit.

Both captured planets have populations of slightly under 65 million Yakrin. Loovria I is completely undeveloped, with huge mineral deposits but no industry or mining facilities, while Loovria II is some kind of research colony and has few resources.

The Yakrin ship we'd seen earlier is an unarmed colonizer which is well on its way to a wormhole. It's too far away to catch before it escapes, but we can chase it later. Right now we're making for Loovria VII, the jewel of the system. It's a huge, fully colonizable world with excellent metal and radioactive ore deposits, and Fleet Command wants it captured right away.

Seeker I, Captain's log, SGY 2405.5:

Loovria VII turned out to be the Yakrin system capital, with a fully operational spaceyard and starport, and it was almost deserted. There were only a few aimless-looking workers milling around when Colonel Haakar's troops landed. The entire planet was captured without a single casualty.

It turns out that the Yakrin tried to abandon the planet before we arrived. They crammed over ninety percent of the population inside that colony ship and left the sick, the old and the unlucky behind. It's a good thing we arrived when we did, because in another tenth it would have been pure anarchy down there.

The Fleet is now going after the Yakrin refugee ship, which crossed the unexplored wormhole right after we captured Loovria VII. With so many people aboard, they'll have to land on a planet soon, and then we'll capture them all.

Note : two entries today to compensate for none yesterday.

As usual very good writing. I'm guessing that capturing that colony ship will be priority, especially if you can transport the population to the newly captured planet. You can never have too many spaceyards!

I have to stop playing the Invulnerable Challenge so much. It's all Stone Mill's fault, I swear !
