Re: Better Know a Pretender: the Crone
Only N picks (or D picks if you're undead) increase max age.

Not quite true. Earth gems increase constructs.

What does that mean?- Did you mean earth picks?

Re: Better Know a Pretender: the Crone
Mother of Serpents and the Priestesses of Arcoscephale don't have much trouble with either, but can't fix the undead. MA Arcoscephale's Astrologers have a nasty habit of getting Feebleminded frequently while Mind Hunting. The Priestess is truly the unit that allows this strategy to be viable for Arcoscephale and no other astral nations.
Mother of Serpents could be used to take the Mind Hunt strategy for other nations, but you either have to wish for one, or tie your pretender up on healing.

Re: Better Know a Pretender: the Crone
No more useless than the maxage bonus for Nature or Death magic, which is exactly the same.
Except that constructs tend to have higher maxages and not start as near them. But that's usually true of undead as well.
If Earth applies to lifeless and Death to undead, which applies to lifeless undead? I'd assume Death, but I hadn't thought of it before.

Re: Better Know a Pretender: the Crone
Ahmm, I disagree. N/D on old human mages is quite helpful as it helps deal with old age, either by increasing maxage so that the mage is considered younger or by decreasing the chance of getting old age afflictions.
Edit: yoohoo my 2.5K post. Damn, I should have posted something smart or witty, maybe quoted a poet
Edit2: Sorry, couldn't resist the urge. Here's the quote, and it's not that much off topic - after all it does deal with life and death and concludes that maxage ain't that useful anyway
"
Life's a piece of ****,
When you look at it.
Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true.
You'll see it's all a show,
Keep 'em laughing as you go.
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.
