Default Modify Existing Sprites / Icons for the Game

Hello Modders,

I am a (relatively speaking) Dominions newbie who is playing hs first PBEm game with a nephew halfway around the world in the states. I am not a modding expert and maybe if I find time may attempt it at some point, but am right now only interested in sprucing up my DOM3 experience playing the existing nations or using some of the new mods I have found in these forums. I am really looking forward to trying out Rohan, for example!

Is it possible simply to get new sprites/icons for the existing nations? If so, how do I download and install them. I know this probably sound boring for you guys/gals but hey you have to start somewhere.

I am thankful for any help/input. Regards from DE,

Regards,

---Ray

Unit sprites up to v3.10
Unit sprites v3.10 to v3.14

No idea if the 3.15 new sprites are available anywhere around here. If you're new to modding, The Unofficial Reorganized Modding Manual is your friend, because it is more user friendly than the modding manual provided by Illwinter. The content is the same, it has just been organized categorically instead of alphabetically. Download the attachment from that link.

For new sprites, you either need to modify the existing ones or make new ones from scratch and then place them in the appropriate mod folder for your mod. See the manual on how to do that last.

Thanks Edi,

Thanks for the time and I will look at all of the links--- PROMISE!

It sounds like the only option is to use the Illwinter modified sprites that were created as a result of versioning the game. Aren't there any (not from Illwinter) sprites for say, for example, Marignon or Pangaea that someone else created here in the forums for download? I know, I'm taking the lazy man's approach here.

Regards,

There are several mods with custom sprites for the nations in those mods, but not much for the vanilla ones. You need to look around. Check the mod list thread for links to the different mods.

And if you do want to use sprites that someone else has made, ask permission first. People put a lot of work to those and may be a bit touchy about it if you just use them without permission. The very least you must do is give credit to the people who made the sprites.
