Sorry, but people in this culture do nasty things like remember details, and compare and contrast shows with one another. It's pop culture, not religion. Although, FYI, I feel I have the right to discuss, compare, and criticize religions, too. (I would keep that to approriate forums, of course.) If you don't like disagreement and criticism then maybe you should move to Iran or Afghanistan. You will find everyone properly respectful of every sort of authority there, because they get murdered if they aren't. I hope you are ready to convert to the appropriate fundamentalist sect of Islam.

I don't know why you've got such a burr up your arse over a tv show, but there's absolutely nothing you can do to stop the discussion. Everyone has a right to have an opinon, unless their opinion involves depriving others of their right to an opinion. It's call pluralism. If you can't live with that in regard to this tv show, you'd best not click on this thread anymore. So if you won't take a humorous suggestion then take a direct warning: GO AWAY. If you continue abusing everyone who dares to touch your holy tv show then you will soon be joining our friend LCC in the outer darkness.

Maybe I'll just do that, and then I'll hijack a plane and fly it into your house/family. Or better yet maybe you should move to Afgahnistan so the US military can bomb you to death when we decide to kill all those Afgans/Taliban ffreaks.

I merely stated my opinion on criticism and you come back and insult me. Don't insult me anymore, and I won't insult you. Unlike LCC I can control myself but I will respond to your insults.

Geoschmo:

I have only responded to the Baron. I stated an opinion and he made fun of it. Harshly I might add (from my POV). I would not mind being booted from the forum if it meant that Baron went with me. He provoked me afterall. It would be interesting to see if we both go.

I'm going to be leaving this forum for a while anyway so no need to tell Richard to boot me.

suicide_junkie:

Yes, I do take what I say seriously. I'm not going to edit the Posts, but I'm not going to post in this thread anymore either.

If you recall from the Voyager episodes, they were 70,000 light years from home or at least 70 years from home if they were able to achieve warp 10 which would be 10 * 10 * 10 = 1000 times the speed of light.

You are correct, and incorrect.

As stated before there is no single warp scale. Your cubing formula acheives a correct distance for Voyager, but if applied to "Enterprise" it would mean the Klingon home world was a little over 1 light year from earth. The closest star system to Sol is Alpha Centauri and it's over 4 light years away.

You pretty much just have to accept that the warp scale varies from series to series, and sometimes between episodes in the same series.

You could try to calculate some non-linear, non-logarithmic scale, for warp. It would require a table instead of a formula. But even then I am sure a thourough survey would find examples where the same warp number translated into different speeds.

Ok guys, right out of the tech manual for the Enterprise-D:
Warp 1: Lightspeed *1
Warp 2: Lightspeed *10
Warp 3: Lightspeed *50
Warp 4: Lightspeed *100
(Scale is hard to read from here on)
Warp 5: Lightspeed *200
Warp 6: Lightspeed *500
Warp 7: Lightspeed *800
Warp 8: Lightspeed *1000
Warp 9: Lightspeed *2000/*3000
Warp 9.5: Lightspeed *10,000
Warp 10: You cannot reach Warp 10.

While doing some research on the Warp scales, I noticed that there were differences in the scales over time. I have not not been able to find any documentation on why theses changes were made. Maybe we are supposed to believe as time goes on the definition and formula just gets refined. This has happened many times in our past. Our temperature scales have been changed and updated with better research and better formuals to explain them. Not much available documentation on this topic as well. You have to dig really deep to find exact explanations on the why and how. Maybe Warp Scales are like this to.

I do remember, though, that where was always an exponential increase (warp 5 is 25 times the speed of light) plus some other factor used in calculating the warp factor. It seems to be ths other factor that changes.

For the record, the Star Trek: The Original Series Tech Manual shows warp 5 as 125 x C.

I think that means ST:TOS and ST:Voyager agree on this?

Sorry guys, but I think you BOTH need to take a break...You are both resorting to the events of Sept 11th to take pot shots at each other, and over what?, one persons 'opinion' over a FICTIONAL show. I don't come here for this, I come to be entertained/hang out with those I can relate to/talk about se4 etc...Not flame and attack people (though you have gotten me riled over with the tasteless Posts about Religion and the Middle Eastern countries...)

Reality Check: Not all Muslims are evil, heck MOST of them are not....Thats like saying that all Catholics and Protestants are represented by those in Ireland who commit their own brand of terrorism...There are idiots in all Groups/races/creeds/walks of life...GET USED TO IT!

And yes I know, I didn't have to read this post or respond...But I did anyway as these issues are close to me, we had a Hindu Temple burned down in Hamilton (Canada)...And why? cause of idiots blaming all 'middle eastern' people....Hindu's and Muslims are not even the same religion! If you are following the TV events at all then you know that lots of Afgan's WANT the U.S. to 'come rescue them', or they don't even know what has happened as TV is non-existant, and there are very few radios...(and no magazines)....(and incase anyone is wondering, YES we should retaliate, get Bin Ladin/Taliban but 'Nuking' the country back to the stone age is NOT the answer, the average person has little to do with the ruling regime, and only believes what they believe because that is the only way they know)...

Anyway, this is pointles..I'm gonna go have some quality time somewhere else for a bit....and calm myself down....

hey Raynor, if anything is in agreement on warp speed, i will be impressed. i think whoever said that the original warp scale was on some cube factor was right, but in voyager they pulled that silly trash with "warp ten is infinite speed, and you will be everywhere at once if you go that fast"

of course, in TNG, the enterprise from the future was boping about at warp 11 or 13 or somesuch.. and in the traveler episode (no, the the wesley=indian god episode) i think they were up in the warp 20s with their hull falling apart while they were on their way where 'no one has gone before'

of course, i dont know if those slipstream drives and transwarp conduits and wacky tachyon thrombic oscelators (bonus points to anyone one who knows what a thrombic oscelator is without looking it up) use a different warp scale or if theirs is like the fabled amp in the quote below.

"Yeah, but this one goes up to Eleven.."
