Not sure what my longest stretch is - probably around 48 hours- but when I was at uni I used to stay up all night playing games/ on IRC on a regular basis. I've often wanted to try 70 or more hours just to see what the hell happens to your mind - gotta be the cheapest hallucinagen available=-)

Current record, 153 hours, or 6 days and 9 hours. I did it in university to win a bet that it wasn't humanly possible to not sleep for five days. Course, our Psychology department found out about it and asked if they could use me for a sleep-deprivation study. So, not only did I win the bet but the Psych department paid me as well.
BTW, this is NOT a feat I recomend trying to duplicate. Not sleeping for that long screws you up big time, and not just in the head. I was constantly getting bloody noses, bruised fingers just from typing and doing pretty much anything was very painful. Though the stuff that goes on in your head is pretty weird too. I remember the experiment/bet started at noon on Sunday and finished at 9pm the following Saturday. I'd won the bet by noon Friday, by noon Saturday I'd proved how bloody stubborn I could be, but then my mind was so addled I didn't go to bed until 9 because I didn't want to disrupt my sleeping patterns for the following week. Ended up waking up early Tuesday morning.
Hallucinations begin around the third day of no sleep. People usually die at about the 4th day. You're lucky.

Wow. Burly. I stayed up four days once, and you're right, it totally messes you up. I often find, even today, that I stay awake a couple days at a time to get things done sometimes.

I once went 9 days without eating, and only drinking water with a bit of salt...does that count?

Ive spent most of my adult life under military rules. Not bad in cases like this since they will definetly push the limits, but the limits they set will have reasons. Not reasons like being nice to the troops. but reasons based on experts.

Female: 7-9 hours sleep
Male: 8-10 hours sleep
after 16 hours you are not allowed to operate heavy machinery. After 32 hours you are no longer responsible for your actions. Also after 32 hours, you CANNOT catch up on lost sleep. Its "deducted from the end of your life span" as they used to warn us.

BELIEVE me, if ANYONE has tested the limits of limited sleep its the military. So I figure their rules are good enough for me to at least try to maintain.

The longest number of hours in a row I have slept is about 18 hours. This was when I was a kid and I used to sleep all the time during school holidays when I didn't have very much to do. As long as there was no loud noise and nobody waked me, I'd stay asleep all night and most of the day. This was especially true on cloudy days.

Now, I still sometimes have trouble getting up in the morning in the winter when it's dark or when it's very cloudy, but I have to get up because I have things to do. On weekdays I usually get 6 hours or less of sleep. On weekends, 8 hours.

Usually try for 6-8hrs with the occassional 10 thrown in for good measure.

The longest I've gone without sleep is about 36hrs. That's the day when I worked from 7pm-7am, came home and moved, then went back to work for my next shift 7pm-7am.

On pressing nights when important papers or exams are much closer than I'd like - I always try to get those 1hr powernaps in to "refresh".

That was a typo. Should have been 7am.

Anyway, in a related mishap connected to this incident, the following night I had to leave work early after experiencing stiffness in my neck which I believe was the result of a couch hitting me in the head.

Personally, I sleep about 7 or 8 hours per night, with a record of (only) about 20 hours straight without sleep. Sooner or later I'm going to try and see if I can get some hallucinations going See what the limits are.

Well, I haven't had any interesting hallucinations by staying up for a long time. I've been up two and a half days but I guess that's not quite enough for good hallucinations. I do seem to recall hearing voices and thinking that someone spoke to me when there's nobody there. Oh, and seeing colored auras around people.

One time at a particular busy time during work at a previous job, I stayed overnight at the office working on an electronic circuit. I was very tired from not sleeping very much the previous few nights, and during that night I kept forgetting that the soldering iron is hot. So I got some burns on my hands because I kept touching the soldering iron tip, or clumsily dropping it on my hand.

On a few occasions I was driving while very tired and repeatedly nodded off. I kept driving off the road onto the shoulder and then I luckily woke up. It was dangerous! I opened the windows and had the radio on full bLast to try to keep me awake but it didn't work that well. Another thing I did was I drove into a highway exit in the wrong direction. Then I saw headlights coming from ahead and I realized my mistake and quickly turned around.
