Any ideas on creating a proportions Empire?
I have never played a proportions game. Up till now it has been the standard 1.84 PBW game.
One of the few things I do understand about it is that population growth is slow.
Any suggestions on what I should take into consideration in creating my race?

Depending on what Race trait you had in mind , Oleg has just updated the Praetorian Race, this may make a nice guide.

Re: Any ideas on creating a proportions Empire?
Hmmmm....interesting.
Must say, I now have a greater appreciation for the guys who create the programs.
But not quite what I have in mind.
(EDIT: My mistake. In my original post, I said race when I should have said Empire.)
(RE-EDIT: I also made the mistake of putting "race" in the topic heading. This has been amended to "Empire.")
For example: Should I consider loading up on Reproduction when I create my Empire?
What other things (if any) should I take into account when I create my Empire for the Proportions game?

Re: Any ideas on creating a proportions Empire?
Reproduction is expensive if I recall and may not be wise to lower.
I like Maintenance, you seem to get more for your Buck
I usually Roll Back Physical Strength and Cunning. {EDIT: A little}
I personally like 10% plus to politics of there are a lot of friendly players.
Star Liners are very helpful in building up a Colony.

Re: Any ideas on creating a proportions Empire?
I think the values are pretty well balanced in terms of points, so that you're not likely to be gipping yourself by not min/maxing "good deals". So you should be fairly free to design abilities to fit the way you want to play.
One tip is to be careful not to lower Happiness or Environmental Resistance too much, and even consider raising them a bit, because it can be much harder to deal with unrest, especially because troops don't help in Proportions. (You can stick a bunch of cheap "civillian" ships in orbit, but that takes more effort and costs maintenance, so there are limits).
Trade is also very important, so minimizing political savvy may not be a good idea unless you plan on having few trade partners.

Re: Any ideas on creating a proportions Empire?
It also depends how long/tense your game will be (just like in unmoded SE !) If you are going to play several homeworld starts in small galaxy, do not take racial traits but bump up construction, research and space combat statistics. If instead you play more normal settings like one average homeworld, consider Religious because of Nature shrine and RT eventually or Organic because of Gestation vats.

Re: Any ideas on creating a proportions Empire?
Combat bonuses are handy in proportions because small ships are in use throughout the game, and they are really hard to hit. Fighters are even worse.
The racial techs are especially good in proportions, so consider them. if you can afford advanced storage that will give you a massive bonus in-game.
