Ships display movement / target range?
Eons ago, I had a older copy of SEIV and recall finding a setting that causes the selected ship to show its path line along with the number of turns it takes to arrive there...
I also recall a display in the lower left corner of the tactical combat display that showed range to a target when your cursor moved over it.
I have picked up SEIV Gold, v1.78 and can not recall where these options are set. Are they still available and if so, where/how are they set?
Advance thanks to all who can help my aged mind recall these tiny details!

Re: Ships display movement / target range?
Game Menu|Options|Display ship movement lines is what you want for the first one.
The range to target IIRC can't be turned on or off, but you only see it when your monitor options are set to 1024x768.

Re: Ships display movement / target range?
Thanks!
So, does anyone know how to get the ships to display their path and turns to position?

I don't know, it seems to be a on and off thing. Sometimes it does it for me sometimes it don't. Anymore it works alot. All I have to do is select a object - planet, moon, ship, unit - and then put mouse over another spot. And in lower left hand side it should show distance. Hope that helps.

"So, does anyone know how to get the ships to display their path and turns to position?"
That's what you thanked Geo for
Game Menu|Options|Display ship movement lines is what you want for the first one.
If it works correctly (it almost always does for me) you give an order, and the ship displays a line to the destination. Each square is marked by a number, which represents the number of turns required to get to that spot.

That's true. When I answered I thought he was asking how to get the range from one object to another. My bad.

Re: Ships display movement / target range?
But you can't get a distance measurement without actually plotting the movement. In SE III there was a 'right-click' option to see the distance from the currently selected ship to the location you had clicked. We need something like this in SE IV so we can estimate distances and time required to cover them without having to actually give the order & then cancel it.

You can, but it's really tedious.

Select the ship, put the mouse on the first warp point it will go through; add one to that range, select the other end of the warp point, put the mouse on the second warp point, add that range plus one, repeat until you reach the destination.
If there's more than one possible route, you have to trace them all to find the shortest one.

Re: Ships display movement / target range?
Thank you all for your input on this thread.
Actually, I have gotten the display in the lower left of my screen to show the distance to target as range: x. What I truly am looking for is what Phoneix D referred to when he stated:
"If it works correctly (it almost always does for me) you give an order, and the ship displays a line to the destination. Each square is marked by a number, which represents the number of turns required to get to that spot."
And, I can not find out how to get this information to display. Additional Posts after this post by Phoenix D suggest others have but it is intermittent, yet I have never been able to get mine to display. My system is set to 1024 x 768 but it doesn't show anything additional at this resolution over 480 x 680...
Regards,
Target

Re: Ships display movement / target range?
Again, it is
Game Menu|Options|Display ship movement lines
If that is checked (green dot), you should be able to see the movement lines. Note that if you're playing in Sequential mode, you WON'T see the lines unless you plot movement for a ship that has 0 MP remaining.
