Forum Presence
Have you noticed that Shrapnel have reached over 5,000 registered members?
Did you now that 2 years ago there were (a lot)less than half of these?
What does this tell you?
Why do people have joined the forums?
What made YOU buy and get involved in this community of game players?
As a psychologist, I would like to know your views on this, but I don't want to restrict the discussion.
Thank you.

Re: Forum Presence
Mike (BOKU)'brought' me over with him. I was one of the beta testers for Armies of Armaggedon (the game which later evolved into The War Engine). I've never left

Re: Forum Presence
I followed info on the then-upcoming SEIV from another site (I don't recall where) and then became involved with testing and editing for AoA and TWE.
Mike deserves a recruitment bonus, I think.

Re: Forum Presence
SEIV, SEIV Gold and Dominions II have caused massive surges in membership levels, seeing as they have been the most popular of Shrapnel's titles by far.

Re: Forum Presence
Mike brought me over as well with AOA, and I became a beta tester as well.
He's involved me in a few other projects, but I've always had to drop out. I had a lot more gaming time when I was an academic.
Since then I've either bought or at least tried the demos of most of Shrapel's games. Pretty high success rate for me overall.

Re: Forum Presence
Im biased (old net) but it feels like the direction the net is taking. ISPs are dropping things like IRC and NewsGroups. Users can find web forums easier than the other alternatives.
-- It used to be "cant see the forest for the trees"
now it could be "cant see the internet for the WWW"

Re: Forum Presence
I suppose I might as well chip in and add my "I followed Mike over (and then got involved in TWE testing)" to the chorus.
Though in all fairness, it was SEIV that lured me out of lurking.

Re: Forum Presence
I migrated here from the old SEIV Forum back in Oct/Nov 2000. This seemed like the place to be as it was the offical site for the game I was interested in.
A member by the name of Flipper recommended the forum so I came.
Word of mouth, well manored forums, nice people, mods, good game support, and shrapnels commitment to keep the forums open has brought many new members to the forum while keeping the old members coming back.
