Default Running Full Screen in WIN10

Hi, apologies if this has no doubt been covered elsewhere. I have just re-installed SPWW2 after a couple of years and have installed all the new updates. However, I can only get it to run in Windows mode within a very small window, about a third or quarter of my screen. If I run it out of windows mode it is blurry and 'stretched'. Do I need the full version and not the free download to get it to work clearly in a full screen window? Advice or help greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

AKL

The free demo game only has 640 and 800 modes available for its evaluation purposes.

Modern windows drivers and/or video cards just won't go as low as 800x600 mode, they assume a minimum of about 1024x768 so trying to run in full-screen mode at that resolution would tend to be unsuccesful.

Therefore you really probably can only run the free demo in a 640 or 800 wide window in windowed mode on a larger desktop, assuming that your monitor has a resolution of 1024x768 or more. Whatever the minimum size windows now supports, post XP anyway.

To take advantage of modern wide screen monitors, you will require the full game and windowed mode using the desktop resolution.

Full screen mode is unsupported as modern windows (post XP?) tends to make a total hash of trying to run the 256 colour full-screen mode's palette (and windows 7 especially, as it particularly uses that palette for the Aero mode effects! - which is why there is the special clunky batch file to kill the Windows explorer for full screen in windows 7). We only leave it in as an option since a very few folks have a windows rig that doesent go titsup attempting to run the game in full screen mode (or have an old air-gapped XP box lying about still).

But I stress again - full screen modes are obsolete and unsupported, so if they dont work for your rig, well tough luck, basically.

Thank you for the reply and information, I suspected that would be the case and I did in fact have the full version a couple of years ago but after a PC meltdown I seem to have lost it. Many thanks, I will get the full version.

Cheers,

AKL

Shrapnel has a thing caled IIRC "safebox" or somesuch. I think it lets you redownload if you have kept your purchase data/reciept.

If buying the game again that safebox (if I got the name right!) thing looks like a valuble "insurance policy" for any future computer meltdown etc - just remember to back up the details on an external drive of some sort if you do so!

Why don't Windows fix that? For the life of me, I don't see any use for small screen mode, only full screen mode, not with any type of program, be it a game or any other type of program you can run, I can't think one single use for it.

Hi Anthony.
I was in the same situation last year : old PC with a new harddrive!! I've lost my files (CD-version) and could'nt install my games (winSPWW2 and winSPMBT!).
So, I've contacted the customer support, and, for I've had the refrence of my purchases, they send me a new link for $4.95 each:
"Product Price Qty Total
Reset Download Service
SKU: RD213
Reward Credits: US$0.12
US$4.95 1 US$4.95
Game: winSPMBT: Main Battle Tank
Goods Total US$4.95"

Hope to be helpfull.
Regards.
