Fallout Windows 7 and Office 2010

Well I guess MS wants to keep XP as the title holder for it's longest running OS, because it won't be Win 7. Heard about Office 2010 going away but there was some discussion (Awhile back since I last checked.) that Win 7 would just get beyond 2020 (~2022) but, I see that's not the case now. Support for both will end in 2020.

You should be notified via email which was how I found out XP I was running wasn't going to be supported any longer.

Regards,
Pat

If you, like me, are trying to avoid getting Windows Big Brother 10, you can always get Windows 8.1 which will continue getting (ha!) support for few more years.
Or go to macOS or Linux.
I never used Windows 7 as I was happy with Vista 64 till I got my current 8.1 for my gaming needs.
When my current gaming computers die off or something, I plan on either fully moving to the macOS/Linux platforms or treat the gaming computer "platform" as I treat a game console. Have (have to ) install Windows 10, but only use it for gaming and nothing else, not even email.

I don't know what you use Office 2010 for, but there are alternatives out there. I use OpenOffice. Well, "use" as I don't really need any office program.

If you have Linux and a virtual machine system, plus an XP installation CD then:

1) Make a VM using the XP installer CD and update it fully.
2) Then make sure the XP image has no ability to see the internet any more. Thus any "internet weakness" is removed as it will be air-gapped.
3) Install anything that needs XP in that image (like these games!)
4) Run the XP Virtual machine whenever you need to play

I already have an XP virtual machine set up for Windows 10, in order to run the Delphi environment to make Mobhack with. The Borland C++ compiler works in 10, but Microsoft screwed up the online help system in windows 8 and beyond, so I probably will shift the games development environment over to the XP system for C++ Builder as well. It's much more convenient using old-style help within the IDE than googling it on Firefox..

I have an old laptop that's XP, and it'll stay that way. Sometimes that DOS underlayer is damn useful.
