Well as they're partnered (And have been.) with the
"
Ontario Regiment Tank Museum" this also has made me feel "better" about these guys including the fact I can easily verify their data. What I like best is that they cover the "
lesser" known tanks and by Russian standards I guess you can say the
T-44 falls into this category when the production number was "only"
~1825 units as compared to it's successor, the
T-54 at ~35,000 units which were produced.
Three things caught my attention first the issue that the
T-34/76 had with it's sloped armor deflecting rounds into the turret ring. It seems this happened more than "
once in awhile" and made for a real bad day for the crew. Also that the
DDR operated them (Though it should be pointed out, that the
DDR was the ONLY country besides the USSR, to operate the
T-80 within the
Warsaw Pact.) and finally how secretive the Soviets were concerning this particular tank during most of it's service life.
