Default New graphics corruption in v7.1

Windows 7 - 64 bit
Windowed mode, 1600x1200, large icons enabled (or disabled, doesn't matter)
Fresh install from CD, v5 patch, v6 patch, then v7.1 patch

Everything looks fine (and just like it did with v6) when I start the game. As soon as I scroll, it looks like it tries to redraw the game in the top half of the window, and the bottom half goes black. If I scroll or press more buttons, it halves itself again.

It doesn't happen if I choose 1280x1024.

Anyone else getting this? At the worst, I guess I can go back to v6. It's fine for me even at 1600x1200.

It's a complete mystery. Does it do this if you run desktop mode ?

OK, I can confirm with both copies of the game I have on my HD that there is a problem with SPWW2 at 1600x1280 that is not happening with MBT. Why remains a mystery but we are looking into it. I can also confirm that the problem exists with that resolution with XP or win8 and since the first report was for win7 this is not a OS issue

If anyone else reads this please try 1600x1280 and let me know if anyone DOESN'T see a problem while running the latest patch at 1600x1280

Win7, Ver:7.1CD:

1600x1280 (windowed) = Bugged - display bad and gets worse (buttons have no text on quitting the battle)

1600x1280 (fullscreen) = all appears ok

SPECIFY " next lower resolution". We have tried in in every resolution in a win8 box, win7 box and XP box. The problem only shows up at 1600x1280 windowed for us so if you are seeing it in a " lower resolution " I need to know exactly what it was and a screen shot if possible. In our tests the " next lower resolution " is 1280x1040 and it was rock solid. We're also not sure why anyone would run 1600x1280 any longer when desktop is available

Umm, err, maybe we forgot that option existed?

I sometimes run older-generation games at 4:3 just to pull the sidebar interface closer to the center. I tried Desktop again and it seems perfectly fine. I will do that instead of going back to version 6. Thanks. Sorry I brought up the bug, hah.

Also, I love you guys, but you're killing me with the 1600x1280. It's 1600x1200! The config file has it right. The launcher has the typo.

FWIW, I do not see this at 1280x1024. I have a 1920x1200 monitor and my Windows taskbar is enabled.

You will only see this bug in a 4:3 resolution that is clipped in the vertical (by the task bar, or it being too deep for a wide-screen). So my XP box with its old 4:3 1280 monitor shows it at 1600, 1280 but not 1152 in windowed modes, but is fine in 1280 full-screen. (1280 needs the pixels for the task bar removed).

The bug seems to have crept in somewhere in the initialisation code - which I don't recollect touching for quite some time. probably since we introduced desktop mode some time back?. As it is not happening in MBT its likely going to be a 1-line typo or missing line difference between the two, and so I'll have to go through the initialisation line by line and find the blooper.

Cheers
Andy

Fallout Re: New graphics corruption in v7.1

Tim James thanks for bringing this up. I've been dealing with this since the patch came out and have been trying to work this through with Shrapnel Games Support for almost two weeks now. Didn't post anything here since it looked like a "local" issue and no one seemed to have the same problem in the forum. My issues started as soon as you hit "Play WinSPWW2". My apologies but I didn't want to "pile on" Don and Andy as they were looking into other issues. I'll point the support team to this thread. It appears in desktop the issue has gone away as well as my game was also set to that same resolution as well. Have my emails to and from Shrapnel Games Support if needed. A lot of deletions and reloading for nothing for something so simple. Well thanks for the answer.!! Gotta reply back to Support before I have to get ready for work.

Regards,
Pat

Pat.. who do you think "customer support" contacts when they get a problem like this ??

Hmmm ??

I have already informed them that there is an issue with that resolution. "Customer support" is for people who don't or won't, post on the forums !

If we'd know from the start that this was a resolution issue it probably would have been resolved by now we really didn't think ANYONE running the CD version would be running at anything but desktop and all the time were were trying to figure out what was going on running the game at 1600x1200 to test NEVER, EVER OCCURED TO US and we'd still be wondering if it wasn't for Tim James giving us the complete information because " I'm running the game at 1600x1200" is akin to telling us you are still trying to run in DOS

So Tim gets an attaboy. Pat gets . I even suggested to customer support that whoever it was that had the problem post on the forums so more people would see it and maybe get the issue resolved faster

So far this "sabbatical" thing isn't going so well........

Don
