Did you lock the encyclopedia to the year 1986? Otherwise encyclopedia lists all units, including heavy mortars.

Re: usmc bug ?
Looks like there is no platoon (battery, company) containing heavy mortars between 1974-2008 even when there is a 107mm mortar for that period.
You may have indeed found something.

Re: usmc bug ?
*IF* it's an error it originated in Suhiirs custom OOB which also lists a 107 mortar between 1974-2008 but there are no formations for it........... however, it could also just be an end date error for unit 354 but if it does then unit 357 duplicates the error

Re: usmc error ?
You discovered one of those odd situations that happen in the USMC.
Formation# 107 Hv Mortar Co (01/46-12/57)
Formation# 119 Hv Mortar Bty (01/58-12/73)
Formation# 081 Hv Mortar Bty (01/09-12/20)
Yes, there are in fact no Hv Mortar formations between 1974-2008 (tho Hv mortar units do exist in the OOB).
This is because the USMC retired their Hv Mortars in 1974, tho they were kept around in the Artillery Regiment "just in case". Until the adoption of the Dragonfire in 2009 the USMC did not actively use any heavy mortars.
The units exist so scenario designers can use them during the 1974-2008 period if they are doing a "what if" scenario, but no formations exist to buy them.
Does this help explain what you're seeing?

Re: usmc error ?
Weapon# 122 40mm M203 GL HE Kill = 3
Weapon# 124 40mm M203 GL(3) HE Kill = 6
Unit# 172 AH-1Z Viper Hellfire x 8 APKWS II HE=19 AP=0
Unit# 173 AH-1Z Viper Hellfire x 4 APKWS II HE=13 AP=0 x2
Unit# 192 AH-1Z Viper Hellfire x 16 APKWS II HE=19 AP=0
Unit# 500 AH-1Z Viper Hellfire x 0 APKWS II HE=19 AP=7 x2
Units 172, 173, and 192 have Hellfire missiles, not much reason to carry HEAT rockets (which have much less range, accuracy, and lethality).
Unit 500 carries no Hellfires thus it has HE and AP (HEAT) rockets.
Keep in mind that while the US Army and USMC use much of the same equipment there are often vast differences in the numbers available and how they are used (for instance at the moment there is one tank battalion in the entire USMC ... 3 active + 1 reserve division) and there are things each uses the other doesn't (M113's and Bradleys vs AAV's).
They are separate OOBs because of these, and organizational, differences. So don't expect them to be quite the same.
