Default Modding AI Research

Heya. I was just about to start some new mods when I remembered a horrible problem I ran into when I created my first race. Has anyone else experienced a limitation while editing the AI research file. I don't remember the message off hand, but I could only add so many entries and then it said something like I didn't have enough memory to add more. I tried it on several different files and the same thing kept happening. I did several searches and came up with zilch.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I had something like that.

If you are using windows Notepad to edit text files, then you have the same problem I had.

Solution:

1) Hold "shift" & rightclick any text file.
2) Choose "open with..." from the menu that appears.
3) Select "WordPad" instead of "NotePad", and check the "Always use this program" option.
4) Press OK.

You will never have the out-of-memory problem again. If you try to open something like "components.txt" notepad complains that it is too big, and then loads wordpad instead. This solution skips that step, and prevents probems with notepad choking (since you aren't using it anymore )

Default Re: Modding AI Research

Unfortunately, I have another modding question for the elite out there.

I am adding an extremely large sized hull size. I have added it to the VehicleSize.txt and have added the necessary bmps to all the race files, including the generic race file.

I am able to start a game using the mod, and on the first turn design a ship using this large hull, and even put it in queue to build. (6.4 years to complete...hehe) However, when I click the end turn, I get the generic, "Space Empires File Not Found" response.

Am I missing something? The hull size in 10,000, with a cost of 100,000. But I'm not getting a range check error. Am I missing a file I should edit?

Thanks again.
