Default Demo crashes on startup - RADEON 9500 PRO

I'm trying to run the demo under Windows XP, with a RADEON 9500 PRO video card and the Omega 2.6.61 drivers, and the demo crashes on startup before displaying any graphics. The error message given is:

The instruction at "0x7c9111cd" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "read".

The behavior is the same if I use the copy of D3DDev.dll provided in another forum topic.

Let me know if there is any other information I can provide to help resolve this.

Thanks,
Don

This problem turned out to be OpenAL related. Users with Creative Labs cards have been having similar problems.

If the demo fails to start on your machine, you have a Creative Labs audio card, and the last thing log.txt talks about is loading the audio device..you need to update your OpenAL installation.

Get the latest OpenAL installer from:

http://www.openal.org/downloads.html

and once installed, delete wrap_oal.dll and openal32.dll from scallywag's install dir.

This problem only effects some users of Creative Labs cards.
