SP Mental attack questions
Howdy,
If I get a message stating one of my mages has been killed by a mental attack, does that indicate Mind Hunt is being used on me?
If so, how do I stop it? Killing the caster by taking the province is not an option. Even figuring out which province they are in might be tricky, but I would assume the capital.

Re: SP Mental attack questions
Get a astral mage there as soon as possible. The will make people mind hunting feeble minded.

Re: SP Mental attack questions
Astral Mages help against mind hunt (they feeblemind the caster), or high MR on your units.

Re: SP Mental attack questions
Piling a lot of junk commanders into the province also works to reduce deaths of commanders you care about, although feebleminding the caster is certainly more fun. Recruiting a commander will happen before any mind hunts for the turn as well, so you can recruit as you go.
If you do have astral mages that can come in for defense if you cast teleport (or air trapeze) it will have a chance to go before the mind hunt does...they're cast in a random order. If you move normally you won't get there until after the current turns' mind hunts have happened, though, due to the turn order. Rituals happen before army movement.

Re: SP Mental attack questions
Small problem, perhaps you can help. The message says something like Saxon was killed by a mental attack. It is a big map and I dont know where Saxon was. Any way to link to the location? I do have a few astral mages, but as EA Ulm, they are all in one location associated with a (formerly) independent province In this game, I have a fair number of mages on the road and a couple of research centers, so I can not assume they are hitting my capital. Or should I just protect the research centers?
This is like searches. It tells you that you found a gem site, but you can only click on the commander, who is sitting in a lab somewhere. I dont know a way to go straight to the province in question.

Re: SP Mental attack questions
That's why you should keep old savegames.
Assuming that you named your pretender "Saxon", you should know where he was before being mind hunted...

Re: SP Mental attack questions
Ich, I was trying to find a polite way of saying "You cheeky xyz!" I didn't find one so I will leave it unsaid... Just kidding, if I lose track of my pretender that badly, I deserve what I get.
Seriously, I have got nailed several times by this Mind Hunt and it is usually some mage that I don't remember by name, so I have no idea where they were. My pretenders have really goofy names. So goofy that I can not play MP...

Re: SP Mental attack questions
Another problem is that names get used more than once. Seriously, I have nine guys named "Tlahuixcalpantecuhtli" in one game (and I only know that because it's easy to count on the F1 screen because it's so long). If one of them got killed, it could be tough to figure out who it was and where they were when they died.

I can't help with the Mind Duel attack, but as far as searches go, it does give you the province. Rather than searching manually through the list of provinces, you can jump directly to it if you use the "#" hot-key, as long as you know what the province number is. I put it on the wish-list to include province number as well as name in messages, but until then you can use this little program I wrote to generate a reverse directory for provinces from the map file. Here is the reverse directory for Glory of the Gods (multiplayer).
Unfortunately you have to print out the list or alt-tab out of Dominions, but I hope that helps.
