Crumble bugged?
In a MP game I'm in few troops of my own were besieging a castle with 250 defense points. They couldn't breach the walls.
An earth-5 mage of mine casted "crumble" to harm the castle walls supposely to wear down 150 defense points.
Instead the army breached the walls instantly and I'm to storm the castle.
there's not much people inside (like 7 troops) but I have like 7 troops too.
Is this a bug?

Re: Crumble bugged?
It does more if the mage has a higher level of earth magic then the spell requires, also you add the str of the attacking force squared and divided by 100 to that number minus the str squared divided by 100 of your defenders.
But you said he was an e5 mage. shrug.
Maybe his defending troops died of disease, or fled the castle(stealth). Or some other event killed his defenders.

Re: Crumble bugged?
Has Crumble/Iron Walls ever worked? I thought they were bugged since dom2. Just assumed they didnt work in dom3? Never actually tried them as a result.

Re: Crumble bugged?
yeah,
I typically play with Gorgon in MA, and i have used crumble at times, it does work. Of course hiring a ton of centaur longbows works too.

Re: Crumble bugged?
I just thought I'd mention that "crumble bugged" sounds like something unfortunate and obscene that would happen to Ron in an X-rated Harry Potter novel.
I have a dirty, evil mind-and I don't like keeping it to myself

Re: Crumble bugged?
Crumble tears walls all the way down, regardless of defense left. This is quite likely a bug, but a fortunate one given the spell would really suck otherwise.
Iron Walls was bugged, but was fixed a few patches back. It is still outrageously overpriced base game, though.

Re: Crumble bugged?
crumble will clear away a wall if you are slowly wearing down the wall but need more time. if you can't damage it you will be faced with a "the enemy army is rebuilding faster than you can destroy" sort of comment, and won't be able to storm.

Re: Crumble bugged?
It does not suck at all. Is too good. A single SC can take a castle with no other help than crumble. Thats not nice.

Re: Crumble bugged?
As I understand it, only if that SC can actually make progress tearing the walls down.
Probably due to the order of events:
Crumble is cast in the ritual spells phase. The walls go down to 0.
Then the defenders build up and the besiegers tear down.
Then, if the defense is 0, the besiegers can storm on the next turn.
In your SC case, if the defenders can rebuild even a little faster than he can tear down, defense will be positive and he can't attack.
If the castle has no defenders, or the SC has Gate cleavers or something, then sure Crumble will help the SC out.
But it doesn't really make sense for an empty castle to be able to hold even a small army off for any time at all.

I definitely agree. It's stupid to have to send a big army through mopping up the space after a dominion kill just so you can take down the empty castles.
