Psychedelic Graphics

Often during gameplay, my screen will flash and then turn "psychedelic." It goes back to normal except for smoke which takes on a "rainbow" appearance. This doesn't impact gameplay, but I was just wondering if this was a common problem and if there was some kind of fix for it? I did notice similar problems in the forum threads and have attempted several "fixes" but the problem persists.
