Direct download purchase?
I guess this will be my introduction. I am having a very hard time finding this game and I dislike getting them mailed to me. The EB games, best buys, targets and wallmarts never seem to have them in stock. I was wondering if there will be a option to purchase the game through digital download. I am really looking forward to playing this game.

Re: Direct download purchase?
I hope there is, with as well an option to purchase the manual digitally. It'd certainly be less expensive and easier to update digitally, and maybe there'd be a way for us poor damned souls who have lost our manuals to download a new copy.

Re: Direct download purchase?
This has been brought up a lot, and the answer seems to be a very firm no on shrapnel game's part.

Re: Direct download purchase?
It's unfortunate, as it would cost them a lot less for production costs in the long-term, especially since the same technology can most likely be used by Shrapnel Games for multiple games. Maybe Shrapnel Games is secretly owned by the Postmaster General of Sweden or something.

Re: Direct download purchase?
The game is non existant in the Boston area. Even a speciality store like ebgames and gamestop don't plan on stocking any.

Re: Direct download purchase?
Yeah, an electronically downloadable version would probably easily double current sales.

Re: Direct download purchase?
It could also cost them far more. Ive setup digital downloads and it still has things to be worked out before it becomes something that everyone will automatically be expected to have.
As far as Shrapnel being firm, they are doing digital downloads. Less than a week ago they announced three more games. Check out the top button on that panel over to the left of the screen about the ProSim games.

It's one of those "it's the wave of the future as soon as we kill all the bugs" kinds of things.

Re: Direct download purchase?
I can say the bulk of my games have been bought over fileplanets direct to drive. The games are usually cheaper and patched when you get them which is a bonus. A smaller company like shrapnel would benifit more from a dtd type of service once a game was released. After endless searching I found a place in florida that will send me the game in 2-6 days.

Re: Direct download purchase?
I'm hopeful that we'll see Shrapnel going completely DTD optional by 2008. I'll add that I also hope we continue to see Shrapnel releasing quality hard-copies of games where they're able to efficiently distribute them.
