AATF: Demo questions
Downloaded the updated demo and have a few problems/questions: my computer easily exceeds the recommended specs but the game is barely playable due to sluggish cursor movement - am I missing something in setup? Also, the contour will not key over the color map - the white parts of the contour map key out but not the various shades of green. These issues may have been dealt with in the release of course. Thanks. Looks like an interesting game.

Re: Demo questions
RN,
The "contour over color" map WILL only make the white portions of the contour map transparent. This may not seem particularly useful in the JRTC scenarios (where there is a lot of vegitation), but it is extremely useful in the 4 Somalia and 4 Afghanistan missions that ship with the game. It is also very useful when playing scenarios from The Star and the Crescent and The Falklands War in the new engine.
The sluggishness is improved in the release version. You can also improve it with these measures:
1. Ensure NOTHING else is running on your computer, including any unneccessary background processes.
2. Choose 16-bit color (which has no noticable impact on game play).
3. Run in full-screen rather than windowed mode
4. Run at a lower resolution (1024x768 or less).
5. In your "Advanced" "Settings" in the display properties, ensure that "Hardware Acceleration" is set to full.
Beyond this, please send your video card specs and we can investigate further.

Re: Demo questions
My video card specs are:
nvidia geforce 6200 w/128 m ram, latest drivers
computer:
P-4 3.2 ghz
Things do run better in 16-bit color at 1024x768 but still lagging mouse movement. Thanks.

Re: Demo questions
I think the issue is video memory. You are running at min specs. But I will check it out just the same.
Also, if you are just seeing lag in JRTC 2, this is underftandable. This is the must CPU demanding scenario in the game. Other scenarios will run faster.

Re: Demo questions
Here's an update Pat - bought a new graphics card (nvidia 256 ddr3 ram) and ordered the game and am playing around with it. Everything runs fine. Just threw me off originally cause my old card ran some pretty demanding stuff OK, but hey upgrades are a way of life with computers.
I really like loading the older games into the new engine - much more intuitive! I'm probably slo but the old way of selecting orders, then units always befuddled me and there were too many ways to select orders, each with different consequences. This interface gets out of the way and allows you (I mean me) to concentrate on playing the game - which is tough enough as it is. I really like the elevation info on mouse-over - makes the maps much easier to read.
Hope things are going well.
