Default movement classes

quick question: whats the difference between, wheeled, AT-wheeled and tracked. I know what they mean and when they should be used, but what effects do they have.

The classes has different multiplyers, when traversing different types of terrain, i.e. tracked and AT-wheeled fare better in rough and sand etc.

You can find the multiplyer rations in the game guide.

Ther is some, considering at least sand and snow. Not much, but some. Dont know about the tracked vs. paved road, whether AT-wheel gets a bonus or not. The ground pressure with tracked vs. AT-wheeled should at least make a difference in some burying earth types.

Out of curiosity, why wasn't half-track included? More trouble than worth or the ratings did not allow the level of fine tuning necessary?

It was never included by SSI. Halftracks are treated as tracked (though some OOB designer has possibly done them as all-terrain wheeled, I bet!).

Halftracks were briefly popular - if they had been differentiated, then same sort of problems with Barbed Wire crossing as trucks, would be the only real difference I could think of in game terms? (But SSI had no barbed wire in the original game either, so no need to introduce the move class).

Not worth introducing a new move class, and then redoing umpty-five OOBS and a squillion scenarios etc just in case you meet barbed wire with one. Especially post war (halftracks were popular in the 30s as they used simple truck steering, resulting in poor steering/turning which is not a part of the game, but would be if you were doing a driving simulator).

Treacked (or AT-whhel if so desired) MC will cover H/T just fine in game terms.

Cheers
Andy
