Idea: Drag select for unit placement
When trying to position multiple defense units in a sector (such as satellites), I find it quite tedious to manually pick up each one and move it. This can be especially tedious if you have 30 or more units, at numerous warp points throughout your territory. Especially when the deploying ship drops them on the other side of the map and anyone can just waltz through the point, well out of range of the sats. So anyway, it would be nice if I could just drag a box around them and move them that way. Shouldn't be a hard thing to patch, right?
Anyone else agree?

I'd also like some sort of 'auto-circle-setup' button that automatically places all the satellites in the sector in a circle around the warp point.

How about formations for units?

All great ideas, I'd go over to spaceempires5.com and submit a feature request with them.

Re: Idea: Drag select for unit placement
Might be better to actually send them in an email to MM. Unless there is a forum that Aaron specifically reads for bug lists and suggestions, it seems that email would be better. Course, I don't know him so anything I send to him would most likely get pigeonholed.
Anyway, I like these ideas. The unit formations thing could be pretty useful. Especially if you can drag-select and then click a formations button or something, and have the units snap into that formation, then position it wherever you like.
I can even forsee "space forts"; large concentrations of defensive bases and units built in castle-like formations around planets and warp points... It's even possible now, but would be far too tedious for practical use.

Aaron keeps a giant spreadsheet with all the fan suggestions.

Re: Idea: Drag select for unit placement
Another idea I had for unit placement: enable the "see weapon ranges" and related buttons that you get in tactical combat/replay, during unit placement. This would be great for setting up defense grids for precise coverage.
