Default A new game story, hopefully.

Well, hello there. Been a while since I've actually posted, but I've been lurking about checking the status of SE:V lots.

Anyhow, I just started a new SEIV game and I thought I'd like to make a story out of it.

Enjoy! (Please, leave comments and criticisms.)

This story is using the TDM Mod Pack combined with many of Atrocities' shipsets and Fyron's Quadrant-Mod Deluxe. The ship-set I'm using is the (New?) Patriarch set from Atrocities. Thanks, man.

Oh, yes, as a warning: This story does contain somewhat of a homosexual relation between two of the main characters. Enjoy!

Chapter 1: A New Era (In Which the year 2400.00-2400.2 are covered.)

Cycle 2400.00:

Administrator Ranja sighed as he took seat in his luxurious throne. His hands, only kept young by a mixture of drugs and surgeries, wrung themselves beneath his ceremonial robes. The Selian Combine had been his to lead for a long time, almost seventy-nine cycles; and every day something new seemed to throw the Combine into a panic. Today, it would seem, is to be no different.

'Now, explain this again, Karda.'His voice was quiet, but amplified by the large vox-units set on each of the great pillars in the throne-room. Chief Scientist Karda shifted his weight nervously, a data-cube held by gloved hands.

'Sire... I-'

'Cut the formalities, I have an entire planet to run and I can't be bothered by oxal-crap like planetary heating again. '

'Sire, we've done it.' Karda was practically beaming with pride.

Ranja muttered: 'I'll say you have.' He cleared his throat before speaking up, 'What, scientist?'

'We've finally made it! A stable version of the ionic engine!' He waved a hand to the data-cube and held it up to his eye. A thin, ruby-red laser scanned the scientist's retina and whirred to life after confirmation. Blue light filled the room as the cube released it's contents in holographic form.

Something floated in the hologram, it was small and cylindrical with a sphere on one end and with, what looked like, an engine rack on the back of it.

'And that is?' Ranja asked; as a ruler, he had a right to sound apathetic, even when genuinely intrigued.

'Sire! I present to you our first prototype star vessel. The Abadan-Class Escort.' The scientist manipulated the cube and hte hologram changed to a cross section of the ship. 'She's only one-hundred-fifty kilotons in mass - empty - but, she has six ion-drives, crew space for 35, a state of the art control room and life support. Not to mention it has an entire half of the ship devoted to supply storage. She could scout the entire solar system with that!'

Administrator Ranja leaned forward in his throne, 'How fast can one of these be put into production, Karda?'

'R-right away, sire. But-'

'But?'

'Well, our astronomers have detected four planets that could sustain colonies upon them- within our own solar system, no less.'

'Yes, I heard.'

'They have also determined that each planet is rich in radioactive material or mineral content.' The data-cube shifted again, detailed reports of each planet following the various cut-outs of the Abadan escort.

'Do your science teams have a draft for a vessel suitable for colonizing these worlds?' Ranja could have kissed the scientist standing before him. Sela himself only knew how bad the Combine's economy was faring now days. The poor flood the streets while the beuracrats feed off them. The military was synonymous with prison. This could be a turning point.

'Yes, sire. But, we would have to find suitable colonists-'

The Administrator stood, his robes billowing dramatically under the great air-movers high up in the shadowed cieling. 'You will have all the colonists you need. I will personally fund the creation of as many ships, of the colonizing variant, as you require. Go, now, and tell our manufactories to begin production.'

The scientist rocked on his heels and took a step backwards, 'Th-thank you, sire! You shall not be disappointed!' He left, running full pace out the massive doors of the chamber.

That night, the factories of Selia were alive, workers stayed overtime, even some civilians helped in any way they could. Word traveled fast on Selia. By the next morning everyone knew about the plans to build four massive 'Amman-Class Colony Ships' and travel out to the stars. People had already begun signing up for the prospect of adventure adn wealth among the cosmos.

This was the start of a new era.

Cycle 2400.1:

An uneventful month passed by. The leaves of the trees turned brown and began to fall. Children were born and many people died. Yet, still, the production of the first colony ship went unopposed.

The same team that had designed the first ships had discovered a way to create a larger ship than the escort - while still maintaining it's practicality.

Cycle 2400.2:

The first colonists arrived at the Lora 'Spaceport' in the early morning. All of them were former street urchins. They had been chosen by the government to 'lead new lives' (If they were willing, they had been told.) and become the first pioneers among the heavens. Four thousand Selians filled the square outside the factory's gates. Among them was Cerian Onasi; a former military pilot turned petty thief as a means of survival, and Aldar Hoa; another ex-pilot, turned Cerian's lover.

'You're sure you want to do this, love?' Cerian shuffled about nervously, crowds scared him.

'I'm certain... I can get a home ready for us on Cornerstone and... and...' Aldar sighed. Leaving the man he had been with for three years was going to be hell alright.

Cerian smiled and started to remove his torn-up flight jacket. 'You better call me as soon as they get the communications array set up.' He wrapped the coat around the smaller man's shoulders. 'You'll need it more than I will.' They embraced as a shrill whistle filled the air, followed by the whirring of the massive doors on the ship as they opened to the dry air.

'I think I have to go.'

'Then go. Don't look back. I'll be with you before you know it.'

Aldar simply nodded before mumbling a hasty 'I love you.' and running to get a spot in the line for boarding. Cerian sighed and took a cigarette out of pocket which he stuck in his mouth without lighting. 'Yeah... You too.'The crowd thinned as he reached the exit of the square. He stepped out onto the deserted streets, falling into the rhythm of an old marching cadence he hummed under his breath. The gleaming tower, on the other side of city, was his destination. A place he had not been in over six years.

The Holy-Light Military Academy.

Thirty minutes later, somewhere behind him; in a past too blurry to remember, another whistle sounded, followed by the throbbing of ion-engines engaging. The first Selians were spaceborne.

So... Comments, flames, bricks? Anyone? I know my writing is pretty sucky anymore. I won't write any more unless people like this one, heh.

Yay, story story story! It's been a while since we've had something to read, please keep it going. Your writing is good- you've taken something we're all overfamiliar with- the first few turns of a game where you colonise your homesystem and take some well-established research choices- and made it interesting with an intriguing society and characters. Well done.

Just out of interest (it doesn't matter to me one way or the other) is this to be a game-led story or a story-led game?
