Good Games For X-Mas
What would you buy for PC gamers for Christmas assuming they are into just about everything except MUDD's like ever*puke*?
What would be some good games to buy? Shrapnel games and others? The only requirement would be a moderate learning curve or less. Steep learning curves turn most people off to a game and I don't want to waste money on a game that they won't want to play.
Thanks.
So far on my list I have:
FarCry - FPS - Excellent game allows for freedom of movement and a great degree of mulitiple angled objective achievements. - For the die hard killers who enjoy sniping people from great distances.
Space Empires IV - Deluxe - TBS - Duh - For the evil emperors of the universe.
Dominions II - RPG TBS - Duh - For the Dragon slayer war mongers.

Re: Good Games For X-Mas
id put Wierd Worlds on the list. Despite the fact that im having some minor tech support issues with Gamers Front, at the moment.
I hear that there are some good aventure games out, and that the genre is making a small comeback. naturally, you will have to look for them. adventure games never get press, no matter how good they are or how shiney the graphics look.

Re: Good Games For X-Mas
Combat Mission: Beyond Overload
Combat Mission: Berlin to Barbarossa
Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
Strategic Command
All from www.battlefront.com
------------------------------------------
Hearts of Iron 2
------------------------------------------
Rome Total War and RTW: Barbarian Invasion
------------------------------------------
Silent Hunter 3--Very good ww2 sub game
------------------------------------------
If you can find a used copy... Star Fleet Command 2: Orion Pirates
------------------------------------------
You say moderate learning curve...well most of these would easily be as complicated and such as SEIV...

The new UFO: Aftershock is good, now that the patch has been released. Its like X-Com, just more advanced (on most points).

Re: Good Games For X-Mas
Heh, now i've got a new pc I'm thinking of buying
Republic Commando - Ok, It's a generic Star Wars FPS, but I like the music, it's fun enough and your squad mates are hilarious.
I'm also looking at X3 - The Threat. I've so far heard good things. Although I may give it a miss so I can save up for SEV.

Seriously?? Say its true! I loved Xcom but the original UFO aftermath was severly lacking.
I got Weird Worlds, it is a lot of fun and easy enough to walk away from (good for the marriage...) but fun enough for a good hour of adventure...

God I miss playing Tribes. When I dream about it I awake in a most depressed mood. Oh well. No joy for Atrocities this Christmas.

Re: Good Games For X-Mas
If you get X3: The Threat, be sure you patch it up. I bought it as soon as it was released (UK DVD version, not the damn US/Canadian 6 CD release...) and although I didn't have any problems with it, some people were having CTD's all the time and other assorted problems. However, with the current patches applied, it runs great for me and most other people, but make sure you have a system that can run it! It's a bit of a resource hog

Download the Nosral Confederacy (a shipset based upon the Phong) and the Tyrellian Imperium, an organic looking shipset I created! (The Nosral are the better of the two )

Re: Good Games For X-Mas
Space Rangers 2!!
2D turn based space combat/trading with optional 3D RTS, arcade and old school text adventures-ish. In the UK and US (I think) it's just sold as Space Rangers and comes on a DVD with the original. It's a Russian game that's taken a load of ideas and just stirred them all in together. It's consumed my spare time for about 3 weeks now.
Seems to be off most people's radar unfortunately. I urge you to give it a try and don't give up at the start if it seems too hard.

X3: Reunion I too have it. Had a couple of minor issues but were my PC's "fault" not the game. It IS a resource hog. Decent game but it does take a while (days, weeks....) to meet whatever goals you set. I am in a non-plot setup and am slowly establishing a trade empire.
Any of the Combat Mission games are a good bet.
