Default AI diplomacy problems

Being fairly new to the game, I'm still trying to get used to some of the oddities of the diplomacy model. I've done some searching on the Boards but haven't found all the answers I was looking for, so please excuse me if I'm rehashing old questions that have already been answered. I am currently using Mephisto's TDM modpack 1.61 for v 1.30, but I ran into these problems/situations with the original AI files.

Why is it I can be involved in a war with a race who feels brotherly towards me, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get them to agree to a cease fire? Should I be proposing some sort of trade in exchange for a non-agression treaty?

What good are borders? I can be the first one to discover a system, claim it, and colonize it; and still some empire will insist I should leave the system.

If I offer technology as a gift/tribute etc will I be giving them my current level in that tech or just a/any level above the receivers level in that tech?

I'm really enjoying the game so far, but the diplomacy quirks are making me consider being more xenophobic in my outlook. In my Last game I got so annoyed with all the declarations of war and then offers of trade alliance that I started just nuking the colonies of anyone that annoyed me.

I am experiencing the exact same problems with the AI under the same conditions as you. This is a very frustrating experience the first time you enouchter the brotherly/ In a state of war with you.

I even went and fousced all my efforts in just geting a cease fire. To absoulutly no avail for 50+ turns. They loved me but insisted I should leave my home territory and bombed me every other turn!

I am considering giving SunDevils Mod a spin in hopes that it balances out the AI diplomacy issues.

Diplomacy aside, fantastic game!

I had a game where a race I had been Brotherly with declared War, but soon was back to Warm and Receptive (I forget which is better, but it shifted from lower to higher). I couldn't get them to end the War either. In that same game, the race I had a Trade Alliance with dropped to Murderous but never declared War.
