Newbie questions
I just played the demo, and am thinking about buying SEIV, but I have a couple of gameplay questions I was unable to answer.
1) Can you cross stars without a starlane?
2) On the new game screen, is there a way to make the game remember the previous settings from game to game? (Events, tech, player settings etc). If I set these, then start a new game, are the previous settings remembered?
3) How do I load previously saved players? There is a "Save to file", but I don't see a load. Is that the "Add existing" button that is grayed out in the demo?
4) In the empire set up section, what is the "Design name file" for?
5) Is there a way to turn off the "Are you sure you want to end your turn?" prompt?
Thanks folks!

Re: Newbie questions
Welcome to the forum and the game
1. I have no idea what your talking about. You can only move between systems via Warp Points.
2. No, however if you like how you have your empire set up, you can save your empire and use it for other games.
3. Start the game and then select LOAD GAME button on main splash screen.
Also download the Getting Started Tutorial Version 0.95 from SE.net
4. Design name files are pre-made lists of names that you or the AI can use to name your designs when you design them.
5. Yes. Open the minister window (The Crown Icon.) At the top right hand side is a tab that reads "EMPIRE OPTIONS"
Click on that and select - deselect the options you wish.

Re: Newbie questions
1. You can open these "warp points" in the full version of the game, but in the demo this feature is disabled, you will have to make do with the existing WPs.
If you want SEIV, be quick - Shrapnel only has under 100 left, as it is out of print.

Re: Newbie questions
Oh yes, the mighty Demo. I too was sucked into this game by that beast..... August 2000 IIRC.

Re: Newbie questions
Welcome to the forums. I have to say "Dr_Whoopass" is one of the better names I have seen for a new member recently.

Re: Newbie questions
1. You can cross stars as much as you want, with as many ships as you want whenever you want. There are no harmful effects, and you do not need special "starlanes".
2. There is no way to make the game remember certain settings, such as galaxy type, size, events severity and frequency, number of racial points, number of starting planets, etc.
3. You can load previously saved racial set-ups using the "Add Existing" button that is unavailable in the demo. For some reason this was disabled for the demo, not sure why. But rest assured, in the full game you can save however many different players and player set-ups as you want.
4. The Design name file is a list of names in a text file that can be used in-game to name your ship classes. When you design a ship, there's a drop-down menu that allows you to choose a new name for the ship class you are creating, and that's where the design name file comes in. There are literally hundreds floating around somewhere, with thousands of different names.
5. I'm not sure about this one, but Atrocities said there is a way, so I'm sure there is
Last but not least, Welcome to the Forums!!

Re: Newbie questions
1. I believe he is talking about warp points people, not crossing star sectors but inter-system travel. edit: Though I believe it is possible to use the map editor and create suns with "Sector - Damage" abilities, simulating harmful effects from radiation.
2. Indeed, impossible, even in the full game.
3. This is a very handy feature in the full version, but indeed again disabled in the demo.
4. As said, won't repeat it. You can create your own (though I don't know if that'll work in the Demo version), and you don't have to type your preferred names over and over again when you design ships in new games.
5. To my knowledge, no. If there was an option to do this, I'd most certainly use it.
Again, if you want SEIV from Shrapnel HURRY UP as the stocks are rapidly running out!!! Malfador has signed a contract with Strategy First, and I have no idea whatsoever how they are going to handle sales! For all we know, SEIV sales might only recommence after the launching of SEV!
Oh, well there's a point I hadn't seen yet. Don't buy SEIV just yet, wait a few months before SEV arrives, you won't have to pay for two games in a few months.

Re: Newbie questions
Strategia_In_Ultima you're wrong. In each game I play I turn off the end-of-turn warning in empire option
