PBW Question

How do you specify the colony type (construction yard, research centre,...) in a PBW game. Sofar I can't seem to figure it out, the computer keeps deciding for me...

You would go to the Colonies window, Set Colony type; then you would choose the planet you want to modify, and would select its new Category. As you can see, it is a fairly cumbersome method, and these labels are only useful as reminders for yourself, so you do not strictly need them.
