Totally confused on patches and mods
Hello,
I just got SEIV in the mail today! However, in reading the Posts to this board and others in the Last few days I'm confused on some things...
What is the latest patch? I hear the new one has a bug or something and I should wait?
And as to the mods.... I understand the mods may not work with the Lastest patch? Should I wait for them to be updated? Which mods should I get?? I'm totally confused regarding the mods...

Re: Totally confused on patches and mods
Ken,
I suggest that you download the patch but only use mods that are confirmed for v1.27. I have been playing a while and that is the approach I am taking.
(Just waiting for Mephisto, Tampa_gamer, Daynarr, etc to upload v1.27 Versions of their mods)...

Re: Totally confused on patches and mods
If you are new to the game, upgrade it to Version 1.27 and keep playing until you get a clear feel of it (play the tutorial first to help you getting started). Then, and only then, you should start looking at mods. Be conservative while installing them as some change the game equilibrium significantly.
BEFORE installing mods, try looking at the files inside the directories DATA and AI. If you start to understand the structure, you can understand pretty well what the mods do.
Of course, if you dont want to spend some time looking at those files, you can always install the mods but it will be more dificult to you to understand what the authors are talking about when explaining them.

Re: Totally confused on patches and mods
howdy JavaS...
What Ubik n GE said...
the MOD pack 1.5 is compatible with patch 1.27b (which is the only 1.27 available now, confusing, eh?); however, the MOD Squad hasn't upgraded their MOD(s) for the game take into account the changes made in 1.27.
until then maybe play a game or two without MODs until you get a feel for the game itself.
If you have questions, mebbe do a search and if ya cain't find the answer that way post here, pretty friendly group for the most part.
Cheers and happy gaming!

Re: Totally confused on patches and mods
Definately get the sound mod. It doesn't change the way the game plays but the sounds are great!
