Default Random Map Generator

Hi all,

I am new to this group and only ordered Dominions 2 yesterday, which I can't wait to get by the way. I have been have a look around the Boards and saw that there was some source code for a random map generator but that the actual utility may have only been available on Linux.

I have compiled a Windows Version which appears to work OK but I don't have the game yet to test it so I can't be sure. It creates a MAP file and TGA file. I can open the MAP in wordpad and get information on terrain, neighbours etc. but I can't open the TGA file (is it a standard Targa file?).

Let me know if anybody is interested or if anybody wants to host or test the Windows compiled Version and I will send it through.

There are quite a few people that are interested. I'd like to suggest that you recompile with the latest source Version, which was sent to me Last night. The linux source is available for download here.

Can you tell us what Windows compiler you used? TIA.

Hi Arryn,

I downloaded the new source and had to make a few more changes to get it to work. I compiled it with Microsoft Visual C++ 6.

Again, it appears to run OK. Would you like me to post it or send you a copy.

Hi Mark!

Same compiler I use. I was just curious. There's another forum thread, here, that's on the same topic. Three people besides yourself (including me) have also "ported" the linux code to windows. Check out that other thread.

BTW, I have no problems viewing the output .tga files with my favorite (free) viewer, IrfanView.
