I just picked up this game and was wondering if any one here has ever played it, if so did you like it?

Re: OT: Hearts of Iron
Isn't it hearts of Iron ?
I would call it a good try for real time strategic games, but lacking challenge. I am sorry, but as a wargame aficionados, I was disapointed by a poor AI.
I made only 2 games with it before giving it to a friend. First one I tried it easy and played USA. By 1942 marines were parading in Tockyo (I attacked Japan Early on).
My second try was with Germany. I stopped playing in 1944, as I was preparing my landing in USA, my Last enemy.
As a whole, I think strategic wargames are not really fit for real time. But that's my point of view, and I am more a chess player than warcraft player.
If you want a good wargame, download Steel Panther World at War. It is free, and rocks the boat big time.

Re: OT: Hearts of Iron
As with all Paradox products, be sure to patch it before you start playing.
There are some serious playbalance and CTD issues in the game out of the box (at least older boxes).
Basically they have taken Europa Universalis II's (which I consider to be the greatest SP game ever) engine and focused more on vaging war. Which IMHO is not a very good idea as war is EUII's weakest part, its strenghts beeing in exploration and diplomacy.
However; If you are interested in the politics of WW2, not just the weapons and battles, HOI is well worth spending some time with.

Re: OT: Hearts of Iron
With the latest patches (and those forthcoming), the game is very fun. The AI still isn't incredible, but thankfully it's been modded a lot, and Paradox has taken the AI mod work done by community members and added it to the official patch. It present much more of a challenge, but the real fun is in Online play. Taking on human opponents really puts the game through the paces!! They are very close to balance with the game, although there are still a few issues.
It's not perfect, but it's a lot of fun. Let me know if you are interested in some Online play...maybe I'll find some time to join you!

Re: OT: Hearts of Iron
hearts of iron is a great game. As said before--make sure you patch it to the latest Version (1.05c )--and you can also try out the stony road or core mods(which add alot and make the AI better). As far as single player--the game still lacks but is playable--while multiplayer will bring the true enjoyment. Paradox released the game flawed--but each patch improves gameplay--and also the community is strong with support for questions---mods, add ons--etc. Paradox is faithful in that it does release patches to upgrade and fix the game regularly. If you are a World War 2 buff--and into history--this in my opinion is a must have addition. If you ever played Europa Universalis--this game uses the same type of engine. This game is a grand strategic World War 2 game--that lets you play pretty much any nation during the period. You can actually have "what if" scenarios-- such as russia joining up with germany--or being separate and invading the US. Hope this answers a bit--check out the paradox forums or road to war.com for more info.

Why do you think I don't post here all that often? It's a great war game IMO, and having all of the patches and some of the mods, it makes for a good game. At least if you're playing some of the big countries. I wouldn't recommend starting out playing Mexico or Luxemborg. But you could if you wanted to. I've spent plenty of nights trying to conqure the world, but then I tire of only conquering one world, and come back and play SEIV Gold (that is, if I"m not playing Galactic Civilizations).

Re: OT: Hearts of Iron
Thank you all very much for your responses. I have been playing the game off and on now and I have to say that I think it is a very nice game. The time that you have to play it in before high point wins is kind of a drag, I would hope that this would go on for ever, no time limitations.
Perhaps there are none and you can go on well after the offical target time has been reaced.

Re: OT: Hearts of Iron
I need to get back into this game. I played it for awhile when it first came out, but the AI issues really irritated me too much.
Maybe I can pick it up and try it again.
