Funny you should have mentioned my girlfriend, because she would probably take issue with you on this point, but I think we're probably getting beyond the realms of a famiily forum.

I'm reminded of a quote from *that* episode of Brasseye: "There's no real proof for it, but it's a scientific fact."

The poor girl has my deepest sympathy, she really does but on the other hand.. given that she is obviously attracted to a lupine fellow with a goatee.... no, she still has my sympathy (unless she is a poodle)

Yes, but you have to recall that Brass Eye was (a rather tasteless) comedy, therefore its expressions can only be utilised for their humour content only and not for some exacting statement
Cantina patrons, you come out now, we are reverting to Defcon 2 as I have obviously won this exchange (hardly a challenge as the battle of intellects go)

That depends on whether you consider comedy and satire to be different things. I do.
Brasseye was satire, and it's (deliberate, forced) tastelessness was simply an illustration of the hideously tasteless way in which the *real* media have exploited *real* paedophilia in order to gleefully whip up hysteria and sell more newspapers.

Re: Ye Olde Galactic Bar & Grill & Phong\'s Head Cantina
I disagree, I view satire as simply a form of comedy. Satire truly developed into its current form in the 80's with the rise of shows like The Young Ones and Spitting Image and these were simply relying on satire to provide the comical element. The same way as say 'Have I got news for you' is satire rather than true comedy (like Shooting Stars)
IMHO, Brass Eye was appalling - be satirical, be comical, dont make a joke in any which way or form about something as sick as paedophilia. The money used by Chris Morris to make Brass Eye could have found much better uses elsewhere helping prevent paedophilia, rather than what was quite frankly an irrelevant and irreverant bag of ****e
On a related point, I was in a karate competetion Last night and one of the regular competitors is a careworker in a childrens' home who, we found out a couple of days ago, is currently being investigated for abusing children based on the allegations of a very dsisturbed child. Did he do it or didn't he? I dont know and apparently in that dsort of situation it is less than 50:50 certain as allegations are far more common than actual abuse. He is a pleasant enough chap but the interesting thing is that he didn't participate Last night and I found out that the other team were drawing lots about who got to fight him. Draw your own conclusions

You are aware that DefCon 2 is only one step from WW3 where 4 is 3 steps away, aren't you?

Re: Ye Olde Galactic Bar & Grill & Phong\'s Head Cantina
Of course I was Esel, Defcon 2 means we are back to the usual state of armed neutrality the regular possee share here. Easing tensions to Defcon 4 mean I am diverting my considerable aggressive tendencies away from the usual riffraff here in the Cantina and am focussing on shredding some fresh meat, ergo El Scoffo
You should know by now my Teutonic friend that us lawyers will argue with anyone, anytime, over anything
