Re: Mods? Maps? Need some help
Only for very simple mods. Any mod with graphics will need to have its dependencies extracted as well (i.e. any subfolders in the mod).

Re: Mods? Maps? Need some help
If he is using the default winXP extraction utility and using the method that I have described, it will automatically retain the directory structure.

Re: Mods? Maps? Need some help
Thanks guys for hanging with me....
I think I was confused about the extraction portion of the mod.
I have played other games EU3,MTW,RTW ect and the mods you just extracted from desktop and they where listed seperate.
So I was really confused because I knew just enough to not understand (if that makes any sense).
BTW what is a Rar file? I know what a zip is.
Thanks agian!!

I keep hearing that you only have to put the mod you want in the Dom/3 Mod file and it will work...no extracting, no messing with it.

Where do you keep hearing that? I don't think anyone has said that in this thread. It certainly isn't true. You have to extract the necessary files from an archive, usually a zip or rar.
|
It's because one of the first few posts you said "okay now I have 3 files that (don't do anything), so I tried extracting"..... That's why you heard "don't do that". You already had them out of the .zip at that point.....

Re: Mods? Maps? Need some help
RAR is a different kindof compression. Later, and more efficient than zip. But since its later, its not automatically handled on peoples machines. They have to download a RAR program to be able to unpack it

Re: Mods? Maps? Need some help
OK, that makes sense.
I have already doubled my knowledge in the last 2 days.
At this rate I will have invented the internet by Labor Day!!
Seriously, when its taken part by part it all really does make sense. The terminolgy is strange to say the least to someone who has spent a life digging in the dirt (I have a degree in Anthropology), or rolling in the dirt (I have played Union Rugby for 34 years).
I'm very competitive and like to test my skills agianst others, but if I can't get into games because I don't understand how to load the games THEY are playing I might as well just play SP a couple of times and go on to the next game.
You guys really do amaze just reading the posts you put up and all the depth you have discovered in this game.
I hope to be able to hang around long enough to give a few of you a run for your money, and with your help you just might be creating a monster.
Thanks guys

IT WORKED!!!!
Orge Kingdoms and Warhammer Mods are both in the mod folders and when I hit one of them they say "enabled"!!
Now I just have to figure out HOW to use them on the new maps I have D/L!!!
I feel like a kid at Christmas!!

Re: Mods? Maps? Need some help
I was reading on here that I must have somewhat outdated equipment (which I have no doubt) and that a RAR file is a newer version of a 'Zip' File.
Is there anyway that I can open those without buying new eqipment?

Re: Mods? Maps? Need some help
It doesn't matter if your computer is 15 years old, it's plenty beefy enough to handle decompressing files. You just need a program.
Wikipedia ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rar) lists several tools you can use to open RAR files. I've used 7-Zip ( http://www.7-zip.org/) in the past. For a free tool, it's not bad.

Re: Mods? Maps? Need some help
It's software that you need. Just a program to open rars. Like winrar.
