Gandalf Parker, are you dismissing FPSs as worthless games?

Money is relative depending on how much someone has available. Ioticus could be some multi-millionaire where $1000.oo is the same percentage of money as someone else who spends $25.00 at the movies with a date. Personally I wouldn't go beyond $70.oo... someone else mentioned spending as much as $100.oo. Each gamer interested in the Dominions_3 has a different percentage they are willing to spend. Personally I feel the game is overpriced by $10.oo in the current market.

Re: Who else pre-ordered...
I'm not sure how much I'd pay for the game. Much, maybe up to, say, 100€, I think. Maybe more.
However, I won't mind paying whatever Shrapnel asks for, because the money goes for more games. Illwinter isn't getting rich, and neither is Shrapnel Games. If I thought they asked for money just because they could, I'd be much more reserved about spending my money on their products. Although that is only Dominions for me...

Re: Who else pre-ordered...
FPS games arent worthless. I enjoy some. IF they have alot of setup such as a mechwarrior or carwarrior game. Or anything where stealth and logical movement such as military use is a benefit over just running in with the fastest trigger finger.
On the pricing, I dont think we can gauge overprising yet. There are many games priced that high and I dont think we have all seen enough to price it compared to the market. Also we would have to gauge it against the average, not against the best available at certain prices.
In fact, come to think of it, personally I think there are a ton of games out priced as high as Dom3 that I consider be below Dom2.

Re: Who else pre-ordered...
ok, but i never see any game priced over $50 so I have no idea what you're talking about. Some games used to be over $50 but that was like 4 freaking years ago. By your description of a "non-worthless FPS" I don't see why you don't like Battlefield 2. One time me and a clan member made our way from karkand to the US base using some good teamwork.

Re: Who else pre-ordered...
Check back. I said I hadnt looked at Battlefield.
And I thought you mentioned a MMO (monthly charge? That could get pricey quick enough).
And also Oblivion? I did a check and that lists at 59.99

What's really surprising are the MMO games... where people pay a monthly fee ranging from $9.99 to as much as $29.99. This is in addition to purchasing the game.
Personally computer gaming would have to provide me a virtual reality where the RPG experience would actually provide good exercise before I would pay a monthly fee totally around $250 a year.

Re: Who else pre-ordered...
Actually I tend to get in on most MMO's. The cost isnt a problem for me. But the only ones Ive kept kept tend to be free ones which might say something. One mud (which I host), Diable II (if you think of it as a MMO), and Ultima Online which I got disgusted with until I discovered the free servers which do it much better. SWG was ok for awhile, and CoH. I might go back to those sometime.
That reminds me.. I need to cancel DnD online.

Gandalf, have you ever tried WoW? I was playing it for like 4-5 months. It was awesome firstly..but after 4 months I was full with l60 tier 2 epics, and I couldnt do anything really, just wait for the next new instance. So WoW is pretty boring after a period. I still login sometime, but only just to talk with my buddies there. WoW's greatest power is the server's community, you can make lot of online friends, and the game sucks you in, regardless that its really boring, when you got all the best items in the game..

That's all too true. I know the UO shards still have my heart, somewhere... All I need is a nice shard (I'm trying real hard to avoid that), and I'll probably go back to the game. Even Linux won't offer enough protection, as there are some clients running natively here, I think. One of the French shards I'm most interested in seems to be slowly edging towards its public opening now... Ha, the temptation. But I digress.

How was that one? I know I didn't hold my breath for it, but it does come from Turbine. Asheron's Call has always struck me as being particularly interesting, but I never got the chance to play the game.
