*whew*, thanks Askan - I was beginning to worry that I maybe there was something wrong with me=-)

I would find it really really hard to go alcohol free - not because of any kind of addiction, I just love beer too much. I also like that fuzzy feeling which lies on the drunk/ sober border.

I'm actually surprised (well more like completely staggered) by the amount of non drinkers. Is that because your all young americans and you have that really oppresive drinking age? Or is everyone just really old and completely out of that pub/club/bar/tavern/inn/bottle shop/21st birthday party/hotel/having a drink with mates on the porch/disco scene? What do you people do after work?
Well, in my case, I only drink socially with friends, and I'm pretty much a hermit. The Last I remember opening the white rum I have on hand was for a candlelight dinner in '93. I was never into the bar scene, and honestly can't remember the Last time I bought alcohol at a restaurant.

I've been on disability since '83, but if I had a job, I'd play computer games and Web surf after work. As it is, I'm Online at least six hours a day, and probably at the computer but offline almost as long.

There's a drinking age in the US? Oh no... Why don't they tell you these things! What is it? I'm screwed....

Its funny you might say that cause here in Australia we actually call alcohol piss. Going out on a Friday night and drinking alot is called "getting pissed". My boss is what you call a "pisshead" or a "pisspot" in that he has a beer or two at almost every oppurtunity.

Cheers,

Askan

hehe Just another Anglo term that is TOTALLY OPPOSITE to it's meaning in America -

If someone was to say "Want me to knock you up?" to a Brit they might say "yes, at 8am sharp, please." Say this to an american woman and you have a distinct chance of entering new realms of pain.

Ask "You want to get pissed?" to an American and they would look at you and ask "What is going to make me angry??"

And is root beer = ginger beer? Or does it have alcohol in it?

Yeah, Dr. Pepper is something of an acquired taste. But I prefer it to Coca-Cola anymore. And root beer pretty much equals ginger beer; except root beer doesn't taste of ginger.

I think America just tends to have more problems with alcohol in general. I have no idea why, but it may actually be related to the whole "drinking age" thing. We're not taught at an early age to drink responsibly; in fact, if we try to drink alcohol before we're 21, it tends to turn into a "how much can I drink before I either pass out or puke everything back up?" Which leads to all sorts of other problems, of course. And it probably also goes back to the fact that the USA was founded by Puritans, who certainly were against alcohol, not to mention that bit in the early 20th century when alcohol was completely forbidden here.

Oh, and probably the other factor is that most of us are "old farts" (i.e., over 30, like me) who just don't have the energy to go out drinking every night the way we did in college.

Energy, time, or physical capability. To me anyway, hangovers hit harder and Last longer than in college, which can be a real drag when you have to go to work. (Damn responsibility!)

Is sweet tea anything like Lipton BRISK iced tea? I might have had it once or twice before... I am from Ohio which borders on Kentucky which is sort of a southern state

BTW, I like root beer and cream soda... my brother can't stand it... and it was only recently that I discovered what cream soda was flavored like... are you ready for it? ... It's VANILLA flavored soda!

This is one old thread...

Sweet Tea is (IIRC) tea that has a lot of sugar in it. I don't think that it is anything like Lipton BRISK iced tea.
