Re: OT: Master of Orion 3 is now working.
A couple of us all downloaded the "2nd" Patch which I can only assume your talking about. I'm unaware of any follow up patches. It fixes some of the more irritating problems but not all. All I know is that when you get big enough to need the computer to run some of your planets, don't be surprised by what your planets are building!!! We came up with a new name in MOO3 for AI (Asinine Intelligence).

Huh? There was actually three patches for MOO3... a data patch, a 1.2 patch, and a 1.2.5 patch. The last is what everyone uses, and you are correct - like the previous patches it fixed some of the problems but not all. Those unresolved problems have now been fixed, however and not by any follow-up patches... if you read the first post at the top of the thread you'll realise that the game is now being patched by the fans, and most of the bugs have been fixed in this way.
I will say one thing about your comments about the AI... if you were trying to play it the same way as you play SEIV your going to run into trouble... MOO3 is not a micromanagement game, it's macromanagement. You generally shouldn't have to run your planets yourself... you use the dev plans to set up guidelines for how the AI is to develop your planets. If you don't use your dev plans, then you should expect to be suprised by what the AI is building, because you haven't told him anything different.
As has been said on the MOO3 boards : "Its not about controlling all your planets. Its about controlling the algorithm by which the AI chooses what it will build on your planets....."
See the Strategy forum on the Atari MOO3 forums here for more info on how to really play MOO3, (since it requires a dramatically different style than your average 4x game), and especially the "Development Plan Guide" thread you'll find there.

Nope, that's not true. I run DirectX 9.0c on my PC and I run MOO3 fine. The usual reason for DirectX surface errors in MOO3 is an incorrectly modded game. Which mods, did you install, and are you sure you installed them correctly? It's most likely you've accidently stuffed something up during the install process, I believe.
If it didn't like DirectX9.0c, MOO3 wouldn't even have got the main menu to display. You'd have copped a DirectX error as soon as it tried to appear.

Re: OT: Master of Orion 3 is now working.
I have the 1.2.5 patch and some mods from the board. I un-installed the game about a 1 yr. ago.(not sure what's happened since) I'm talking about planets all built to the max and computer controlled. The last time I ran the game I had enough ground troops to conquer the galaxy 5x's over. That problem was supposed to be fixed in the patch, but their fix left a lot to be desired. I think it's great that the fans of the game have (once again) bailed out a faulty product. This is why I specifically look for games that have editors or scenario builder in them. They allow for greater flexibility within the game and allow user to run the game that they like. I just recently purchased War Engine and love the flexibility of being able to design the "Whole Game".

Re: OT: Master of Orion 3 is now working.
As Colt mentioned, some of the mods you install have to be treated with care. The map mod will give you the direct X problem if you've tried to replace a star lane(3 or more turns to travel) with a warp lane (1 turn). For some reason the game doesn't like when you mess with these. Some of the mods that allow you to get extra points for building your race also cause this problem. Just don't install to many mods at once. One at a time and run the game after each mod is installed. Try the diplomacy mod as it does a nice job of actually fixing the negotiation phrases that the AI uses. It was a well done mod with one or two phrases out of place. You can go into the mod and fix them yourself if they haven't been fixed already.

Ah, the map one is probably it since that was the only one that actually really /changed/ anything.

Re: OT: Master of Orion 3 is now working.
*thread necromances*
When patching the stock MoO game up to the latest do I have to use the data patch, v1.2 code patch and the latests patch, or just the latest? I dont want to spend a half hour DLing something I don't need.
