Re: Standards - MA Game (running)
I seemed to stale last turn
For some reason I though I had submitted my turn already.
I'm afraid I will be quite unable to properly play any turns in the following days, as I seem to have catched a quite nasty disease from our kids. Been in high fever for couple of days now, getting itchy spots on my hands, feet and face and my throat is sore as hell, can't barely eat anything. Feels like someone cast a Death spell on me... was it you, AoE?
But I'm sorry to say I think I may have to drop off the game as I wont most likely have time to play around christmas time either

Re: Standards - MA Game (running)
Try some Echinacea/ Goldenseal mix. Echinacea purpurea is a great imminune booster. Hydrastis canadensis is as well but very potent. Don't use it on a common basis though because it can cause a host of side effects. See a herbalist that knows what they are talking about for details.
I don't see any reason for you to go. I'm sure we will have a pleasent and busy holiday season. I think if someone wants a delay it can be worked out.

Re: Standards - MA Game (running)
Echinacea can be used in a fairly ongoing manner without serious side effects, at low dosages. It can be megadosed for upwards of a week with no problems as well.
Goldenseal (Hydrastis) however is extremely powerful in action, and should be used sparingly, for short periods of time. It can also be somewhat megadosed for a few day period as long as not being used before or after, but it will make your liver work very hard (not that Goldenseal itself is hard on the liver, but it ejects toxins from your system).
Though if you are still feverish, what I generally do is burn the fever out, intentionally. If you can get some Sambucol (Black Elderberry Extract), it has some extremely powerful anti-viral activity. Take a big swallow of that, bundle up tight, and rock yourself to sleep. Probably wake up in an hour or two, dazed, delirious, and hot. That's good, take another swig of Sambucol, relax, and fall back asleep. When I do this, and push my temperature up a couple more degrees, I am over the illness and just having recovery symptoms (lung butter, et al) within 6-8 hours.
At any rate, good luck. Hopefully you're back in action soon. <3

Re: Standards - MA Game (running)
I beg to differ with you Jim. I feel that boosting your immune sytem over a long term just makes it weaker and dependent on the herbs. At least thats my take on it. Do consult a herbalist before taking Goldenseal, It has been banned in some states due to people overdosing on it. Yes herbs are powerful and not to be taken lightly.
I didn't know about Sambucol, I'll have to ask about it. If it is good I'll have to add it to my gear. Does it taste as vile as Echinacea? Nah it couldn't, nothing tastes worse...

Re: Standards - MA Game (running)
I tend to make a pot of chicken soup and drink hot cider when I'm feeling ill. But I guess that makes me a freak.

No, the freaks are the ones that when you mention hot tea, ask you if coffee is okay because it's the only "hot" thing they can come up with, that's liquid. O.o
And yes, some say that any extended period of Echinacea -can- make the immune system dependent on it. There's of course not really any studies done. My basic rule of thumb, is that the longer you use it, the less you ingest at a time.
The Sambucol is Black Elderberry. It's almost vile, but it comes as a syrup, and really isn't that bad, compared to whatever horrible virus you have, and any other meds people might try to push onto you.
I thought the limitations/bans on Goldenseal were entirely due to the misuse in masking drug testing results? I'd be willing to bet if anyone has actually caused any liver damage, or gone to the hospital, it's because of that as well. Megadosing is always something you want to be cautious with, as most herbs have almost 0% side-effects at their normal effective dosage, but many can make you feel a bit sick if you overdo it. Personally, I've come to the point where if I really want to cleanse my system, I just do a purifying complex of Goldenseal, Echinacea, Peppermint, Red Raspberry Leaf, Dandelion Root, and Milk Thistle Seed (all at the normal dosages or slightly less, and relying on the synergy). Sometimes other herbs pop in to say hi, like Ginkgo or Gotu Kola.

Re: Standards - MA Game (running)
I've heard it said that once a year you should consume a can of horseradish in order to cleanse the system. Though I'm talking exclusively about the bowels. Will have side-effects, like can't leave the bathroom.
Edit: By the way. Do any of you have a remedy for leprosy, cause that might come in handy... ha ha ha.

Re: Standards - MA Game (running)
Horseradish in a can?
I have much less painful concoctions to ingest, to clean the pipes out. Google "Internal Saltwater Bathing" if you get a chance. It is really quite effective, and not nearly as horrific as eating a "can" of horseradish, or taking an enema.

Re: Standards - MA Game (running)
People have died from ingesting too much goldenseal. Thats why I'm very cautious about letting people just take it. Heh, there's a method to rid yourself of poison oak allergies, I do it every time I go deep into the woods. I eat one tiny baby leaf about 4 weeks before I go. I knew a guy that thought if a little was good a bowlful would be better... It wasn't pretty... A little cautionary tale.
