Re: Favorite games
I don't like the HoMM series, per se, but I do love HoMM3.
In my bag of favories:
Heroes of Might and Magic 3
Heretic 2
Dominions 3
Thief
Thief II
(Syd Meyer's) Alpha Centauri
Quake 3 Arena
Q3A is hyper-threaded for Linux, so bonus!
Despite the fact that the Thief games have an ending, I always find something new each game. Did you know that you can complete the Cathedral in about 5 minutes?
Drop a skull in the entrance door to wedge it open, grab the Eye, and leave through the front doors. Tah-dah!
Ever been to the basketball court in Thief?
In HoMM3 I always play Necropolis as they are considered among the weakest nations. Not in my hands.
I don't think Alpha Centauri appears anywhere else in this thread. Too bad. Great game. Similar to Dom3 as you have to choose your research paths wisely.

Dude, Alpha Centauri was listed five times in the first two pages of this thread alone.

Off topic but...Necro is among the weakest nations???? that is so so not true...In L/XL maps Necro is considered one of the best towns (of course conflux gets the top rank again). In S/M maps necro's strength weakens significantly but still considered a mediocre race to play.
If you go to any HoMM forums most people would vote fortress as the weakest town, interesting enough some of the top HoMM3 tournaments players were fortress players. I personally believe H3 is balanced enough it's hard to vote who's the weakest and who's the strongest.

Re: Favorite games
The hero with specialty on skeletons + the items that grant +1 hitpoint per unit is insane.
I killed a stack of 25 archangels with a group of 1000 skeletons on one blow, and after they attacked the skeletons.

Re: Favorite games
absolutely, and for most competitive players it only takes them 2-3 weeks to have 1000 skeletons in their armies, more if they can find some of the artifacts. Guess skelespam doesn't just exist in the world of dominions

Re: Favorite games
Last time I checked, Necropolis was BaNNed in Homm3 multiplayer. Because it's so powerful. And regular skeletons are not everything.
I remember a small or medium map which had 5 level7 dwellings within 2 or 3 days from your capitol. This translates into 20+ skeletal dragons in week2. (undead transformer)

Re: Favorite games
IMO (which has more to do with how I enjoy playing the game) Fortress is not the weakest faction, Inferno is.
Necropolis is very strong, but that's not why I like them.
Regardless, HoMM2 is way cooler than 3. I only play 3 thanks to WoG

Skele dragon in undead transformer? Is it WoG that you are talking about? No offense to the WoG lovers but it's just not HoMM game to me.
