Re: Bagpipes vs. Oboes
Oboes are not going to cut it. If you want to have half your army playing them instead of fighting go ahead, one bagpipe is all an army needs and the rest of the lads take the oboes from your mouths and bop them with it.
When I think oboe I think Woody Allen movie. An army of Woody Allens. I don't find that scary. Actually Woody Allen is known for his clarinet, but I still think him and oboes go together.

Re: Bagpipes vs. Oboes
I just think it's sad that the devs have obviously been so influenced by Oboe fanboys. I read one guy saying that if they had Oboes at Vietnam instead of guitars, the war would have been won!

Re: Bagpipes vs. Oboes
Well, I think you are all ignoring the significant influence of the material used in the construction of the oboes. An ash or elm oboe is pretty weak, but if you make one out of spring steel, you get a lot more power out of the resonance, for better penetration. This should be reflected in the game. Now, try making a bagpipe out of spring steel, and see where THAT gets you, lololol bagpipefanboyz.

Me, I'll stick with my viola.
I've lost the instrument but I've still got the case.

Re: Bagpipes vs. Oboes
What if you made crossbow quarrel oboes? Would arbalests (1 shot per 3 turns at higher volume) beat normal crossbows (1 shot per 2 turns, lower volume)? I don't think you could craft a ranged bagpipe though.
Now, wall shaker is a horn, right? So shouldn't bagpipe have a siege strength bonus, at least equal to gate cleaver at least. I mean, if a horn breaks walls, wouldn't bagpipe be at least as effective as that?

Re: Bagpipes vs. Oboes
I suggest a new hidden attribute: #bagpipesanity to account for the cultural distance between any given unit and scotland.
Clearly bagpipes should cause insanity, with R'lyeh being especially vulnerable.

Re: Bagpipes vs. Oboes
Bagpipes should have a fear(50) effect against ilithids - you can make a bagpipe simply by scraping all the insides out of a severed Starspawn head, after all.

C'tis should get bagpipe immunity as well given that Bagpipes were invented in Egypt.
