Default Re: Star Wars vs Star Trek

I voted Star Wars but I grew up watching reruns of the original Star Trek series probably about the same time Star Wars came out. I like the action scenes in Star Wars much more. I really can't totally relate to the geeks in the funny movie preview. They were way geeky. (reminds me to dust off my action SW action figures). We all have a little geekiness (made up that word) in us, but to different levels. Yes I have a few SW action figures and trading cards and what not. My son got lucky since me and ny wife both like SW. He's got the motherload of all SW toys. lol.

oh, Hmmmm.... to choose....

I don't hate ST at all. I quite enjoy it but I definetly rank it FAR below Star Wars.

No, its just the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Shields are great for saving money (and not having to replace your ship models for every episode), but when a ship gets hit, I wanna see ragged burning holes!

I wish more ST and SW fans could get along. There isn't that much quality SciFi out there to be so nit-picky.

Personally, I like both, but I lean towards Trek. The biggest thing Trek has going for it is the sheer volume of material. That's also unfortunately it's biggest downfall. Star Wars has 12 hours. It's definetly more consistant that Trek from beginning to end, but as good as it is you can only watch it so many times before it gets old.

Trek on the other hand has enough episodes to run 24hrs a day for weeks. At it's best; the last couple years of TNG, the first couple seasons of TOS, every other movie, and pretty much every episode of DS9, Trek is great entertainment. The plots are engrossing, stories are action packed, the effects well done, and the characters deep and engaging.

At it's worst; the last season of TOS, the first couple years of TNG, every other movie, most of Voyager and nearly all of Enterprise, it's borderline unwatchable.

I do like Star Wars, but I could easily come up with 40 episodes of Trek that are better than almost any of it. With the possible exception of The Empire Strikes Back, which I would rank as one of the best all time movies ever, SciFi or otherwise.
