Don't tell the ISP about it and don't use port 80. They will probably never find out.

It takes 10 times more machine to create anything than it does to serve it. It would easily be more ISP than you will ever need. And probably handle a couple dozen of your friends also. Unlimited web, unlimited email, personal IRC server, game host, whatever.

Well I have scavanged 4 PC's today. The two Pentium II 400's are now officially both dead. I parted them out. I don't know what killed my first PII, nor do I know why the second one chose today to toss in the towel.

Any ways, the CPU's, SDRam, HD's, CDRoms, and Floppy's all seem to be good. The MB's I think are not well although I cannot be sure.

So I have all these parts, and no idea what to do with them.

Have any of you ever seen a Quantum Bigfoot 5.25 Series Hard Drive? It is one big solid HD. Its twice the size of a normal drive and very heavy.

Its also for sale.

For a price HP will dispose of old HW.

Otherwise, there are several donation sites, including this one with a searchable database.

I can say that this method is used by many "companies" in the world to destroy sensitive data - and it is a very secure method.
Or so they would have you believe.

The most secure method would be to wipe multiple times and physically mangle the platters. I've heard of places drilling several holes through the disks, melting them, and all sorts of other physical abuses. Strangely, I've yet to hear of anyone actually cutting the platters into several pieces and scattering them in different bags. Maybe the truly paranoid don't speak up.
