Question on posting information etiquette.

Quick question for ya. What's the general opinion (and official word) on referring freeware on this forum? It's not technically "competition" for Shrapnel, and maybe Shrapnel can pursue them to publish them (assuming their worth anything

). Anyway I ran into something pretty cool that's freeware, but I don't want to post a link unless it's okay to do so. Well, let me back up and say that I ran into something that in my opinion is cool. Everyone else might already know about it, or it might be totally lame!

Heh, anyway I'll hang tight unless I hear something official.

No problem Rogue, post away. The only thing we truly frown on is piracy. If the program is truly freeware or shareware and you think people would be interested, go for it.

Thanks Tim. I checked it out and it's freeware--part of a "Savannah" project, somekind of open source thing? So it's not piracy. I get really hot under the collar with folks who pirate software, but that's another topic since it drives up the cost of software for everyone else and...but I there I go off topic again....

Anyway, on a hunch, I did a search and someone posted about "Wesnoth" back in July of 2004 on the DOM board. So as usual, I'm about three years behind everyone else.

But, for those like myself who fall off the face of the earth, the game is called "Wesnoth" and it can be found at the Wesnoth homepage with both Mac and Windows versions available. It's not as tactically indepth as DOM, but it's a fun little strategy game.

Here's another couple that I ran into. As far as I know, this is all above board and legit. I haven't tried it out yet, but I'm dying to try out this Privateer remake located here. I used to love that game and it's nice to see someone take an interest in it. Heh, it's probably why I like StarFury so much.

It's using another engine, the "Vega Strike" engine which can be found here.

If you liked Privateer have you tried Freelancer? Also if you like Starfury you should check out the Peoples Mod at Nemesys.ca

I actually do own Freelancer--I didn't like it as much as Privateer actually. Heh, don't know why, but it just didn't click.

I'll have to check out that mod though, thanks for the tip.
